Birtukan's Sista Soljah Moment

What she said should have been said by the Kinijit leaders long time ago. But it takes courage to take on some Kinijit people who have no idea what the U in the CUD stands for. Kinijit will strengthen not weaken if it is inclusive and if it is not beholden to some of its extremist elements.

EZ,

Well said. I couldn't agree more.
Leave behind the kinds of Dr. Getanchew Haile and march forward with pragmatism and inclusiveness.

EZ,

You should ask

What evidence can Ms.Birtukan give us to substantiate the allegation of the attack of racial slur against Tigrayans made by Kinijit.org?

So far, she didn’t give any evidence for her accusation on the said website.

There are two kinds of understandings about the U-Word in CUD. And in my view they can not go hand in hand, because the Derg style unity and a unity based on democracy and inclusiveness are very contrast ideas.

But thanks to God the extremists are becoming a minority! The majority is comprehending the idea that the mengistu style unity is indeed a disintegration of Ethiopia as seen in the case of Eritrea.

The moderates and the democrats will have the upper hand, for extremists have brought us so many misery on us for the last half of the century.

It is time to undergo a paradigm-shift!

I thank Birtukan for her courage and humbleness. May God bless her!

Here we go again! a pardadigm-shift! that is the new jargon that the americans has been beating to death and we are catching Up!Ha Ha.Ha...
By the way EZ don't you think it is best if we let the two sides to sort out their diffrences. Remeber, we are only adding fuel to the fire if we coin some of them 'Exterimist'..'Democrats' etc. Let them sort it out.

Oh, how I wish you haven't used this phrase to describe Birtukan's courageous speech.

Anonymous said...

Very well done! Nice political move as she used Minneapolis to make those statements.

In Your Face !

I wonder if Getachew Haile was in the audiance?

Birtukan, if you have to Apologize, apologize for your half of the CUD

And Tigrians don't need a group that sells Salvage (second hand) idea when there is an Authentic one!

Birtukan, in her annoying voice that is devoid of passion and a demeanor of high school valedictorian than a second in command of a party vying for power, apologized on behalf of Bediru Adem and Kinijit.Org. The fact is Bediru's speech is but just a precursor to the boycott directive given by CUD shortly before their incarceration. That FITWA sets in motion the hate politics of the CUD and its supporters for the last two years. Birtukan will also not loose the fact that it is the Current Afairs Paltalk room, a group she can't thank enough, than Kinijit. org that is known for attacking Tigreans. If Birtukan has any genuine interest beyond cheap shot at the Hailu Group, she should apologize for the hate politics of the CUD and condemned her supporter’s action.

Birhanu and co. group's philosophy, as presented by Birtukan, of group rights with emphasis on individual right is just a variation of EPRDF’sm with out the lesson learned in 15 years. These group has as much right to entertain any idea as any group. But trying to sell these ideas as CUD is like preaching liberal idea and declare that that is what Republicanism is all about. If this group have any respect for their idea, and their audience for that matter, instead beguiling a constituency that is clouded by euphoria and hate for the ruling party and smear campaigns over corruption, they should put forth their stand in candor. From the somber look of the audience in Minneapolis, and some exhibited snickering, it is obvious these ideas will not receive a following. The fact is CUD is nothing but AEUP that has its roots in AAPO a ONE FLAG, ONE PEOPLE, ONE Nation chauvinist party by design. It rejects Ethnic Federalism and espouses assimilation. No! The ARADAS have such croockish and dishonorable way of attaining their goal - they rather steal a ready made party and try to take ownership through chicanery and deceit than pay the sacrifice required to build one fom scratch.

Tigrians have gone through thick and thin with TPLF. They were with the Party in its triumph and its strategic blunders (such as its association with Shabia). They have endured attack from the CUD supporters with resilience and come out strong to build a bright Ethiopia with other Ethiopian brothers and sisters.
The shameless apology, whose purpose is to undermine the Hailu group, is truly insulting. CUD can not count on Tigrians or any other Ethnic group as a constituent. And this creepy group of crooks and turncoats will attract no self respecting Tigrian, except a WEDO'GEBA that dreams of attaining power that is lost during the split of TPLF or the Dergue era.

anon @1:58, wake up man. Doro wediya ... wedih ale yagere sew. It simply disgusts me to believe that such people exist in our planet where they live as a cave man. Go to the concepts she courageously went out for the public to appeal, to be all inclusive including the tigreans and oromos who are known to be many in number at minnesota area. Go to hell with your trade company kinijit.org. They were given all the chances but since they stick to their old style of "Zeraf" and "atinkugn" while hindering the democratic struggle so highly, they can no more represent our beloved party KINIJIT, so teshekemewuna zur sitfelig. Please convey my message to your asadagis too, the collection of keysi's. Sooner or later, we would emanicipate ourselves to the new paradigm of visionary leaders led by H. E. W/t Bertukan Midekssa

EZ,

I don't think this will do any good for the party at this point in time.

If anything was said by Kinijit officials and Kinijit.org against the Tigreans as the Honorable Birtukan Medkissa has said - then this is not really the time to bring up the subject and appologize on a foreign land and a non voting contstituent. This is a sensitive issue that will further polraize the movement. I am sure both the EPDRF and the Hailu Shawel group will have somthing to say about it.

No doubt Birtukan is a well intention poltician but her lack of expireance will hurt her as we have seen it in the past 2 months.

My advise to Birtukan is to remain calm and be herself. She has to restrict herself from uncessary remarks or comments and appologies. Take the advice of Prof. Mesfin to your heart. Otherwise you will be destroyed very fast.

Just go home relax and debate with HS and friends to the good of the party.

The rest is destructive.

I think people in the CUD are naive if what Giftii Birrtukkan said is their position. Some ethnic movements working for independent states have gone way far. I feel that the stage reached now is irreversible. The issues for these movements are not democracy, human rights and economic development. Every political party in the country including the ruling party believe that the slow economy (poverty) and lack of good governance (democracy and human rights) are responsible for separatism. But that is only partly true - and the smallest part at that. The CUD is following the same line.

Because there lacks an understanding of the movements and their obsession to have a separate state and the means to deal with it, the CUD all other UNITARY organizations will see the country crumble before their eyes. Probably sooner than later.

They should, therefore, be more realistic in what they think, say and do.

For the first time in my life, I heard a political figure ask an apology to her people. I also heard a political figures acknowledge the work of G/hiwot Bayekedagne. If you dig further you will see what a visionary man G/hiwot Bayekedagne was. Had our leaders been keen to learn from their scholars like G/hiwit and humble to say apology, we would have enjoyed the fruit of civilization, democracy and good governance some 80 years back. We would also have been considered as a real role model for the rest of African countries not just because we are the only independent people in Africa but as a people who developed theirs country by their own wisdom and their own natural resource. Bertucan’s call is a wake up call. Let us give our ears to her call. Let us unit to build Ethiopia, invasion the creation a United States of Africa.

God bless Ethiopians

I agree what has been said by Wzt Birtukan.

I think what we Ethiopians must do is to feel other Ethiopians sufferings and defend it as our own. Let us liberate ourselves first from our ethnic superiority
and narrow mindedness and ignorance. Take away individuals ethnic background, take them as decent human beings, and care for them and show you care and respect for the individual.

Let us take individual ethnic problems as our own ethnic problem show concern for all not just for your own tribe or ethnic group.

Let us be liberated human beings first and care for all human beings and show concern for all human beings.
thank you

Dear ER,

It was a great and well articulated speech of Birtukan Medikssa. It is one of hope and great wisdom of Ethiopian style. This is what real approach of adressing others to come to the Kinjit camp. She is a very humble Ethiopian. I have one message for those who act like the old medivial feudal aristocracy. We are living in the 21th century. Please adapt yourself to the new situation. Ethiopians are tired of old style dictatorial leaders. We need real pragmatist leaders who have the courage to help us come out of poverty. It is impossible for you to break the backbone of Kinjit, because Kinjit is in our heart. God bless our leader Birtukan medikssa and other humble and honest Kinjit leaders. God bless Ethiopia!!!!

To EZ,
this is not a comment. It is a suggestion to EZ. There is a serious allegation about Ato Hailu's reorganization of his former AEUP party see here. And you told us once that a bank account has been reopened in Addis in the name of AEUP.

In my view it seems Ato Shawel has made his mind not to return to CUD. So as you are one of the most reliable source of information in Ethiopia, I would appreciate if you gather some information about the activities of AEUP in Ethiopia.

I know you don't want to further widen the gap between the two groups in CUD, but in my view the current problem in CUD is no more a simple personal problem but a very serious and basic problem and secondly it seems to me that Ato Shawel has made his mind not to return to CUD anymore.

So when the split is becoming inevitable, what we should do is to show the facts on the ground and inform the public that any undemocratic group may not get the support of the people before it is too late. The time of MALEBABES is soon becoming inappropriate and harmful.

This is only a suggestion and I would not mind if you also decline it.

With regards,

Fikre Hizb.

It would have been a wonderful thing if she had meant it. But it is obvious once again that she did not and that she was playing to the gallery of the day. Please view the video and you can see how unconfortable she was with her self and the speech she was giving pictures have a way of telling the truth when the mouth is espousing words.

Kinijit had been known to be inclusive and wecome to all and that had been said several times by the extended leadership in North America over the last two years. That reflects what the Kinijit's leaders believe.

EZ,
You mentioned the famous word, EXTREMISTS, hopefully you will make it clear what your defination of extremists is as it relates to KInijit. These days, some people call Dr.Birhanu's group hard liners and extremists. Dr.Birhanu labels the other half of Kinijit, Extremists. Web opinion contributers tell us, the new defination of extremists is;
-patriots, nationalsits, hard liners and/or at times attach it to some ethnic groups.

In a way it is gradualy becoming a convenient blanket term to mean any number of things.

extremist elements,derg,feudal,...these days.I am ashamed that all 2+ years adoring the great men/women ,now in a short period of time at a dispute that has not really been explicitly defined to the general public, you all[on both sides of the 'split'] are using bad words.
Meaning,You all are cheating yourselves all past 2+ years.
As what leader Hailu said,if you really loved them you should not clean dirty clothes on the street.
This is not healthy for Ethiopia.
EZ- sometimes you make me unhappy.

Zagol,
I agree with you. I know a lot of Tigrian's who believes in the prinicples in which kinijits stand. Kinjit should include not only Tigrians but also other Ethiopian's to be a successful party. In addition to that, they should also get rid of some of the few extremists that are hurting the party!!
Thanks!!

Do you mean Sister Souljah moment? If so, who are the extremist and the racist?

I think Sister Souljah moment is more appropriate to describe US politics. I think we have to be very cautious in using that kind of phrase to describe situations, which are factually unrelated.

Hello EZ,

Where are you EZ, the true son of Ethiopia? Whenever your writing is interrupted for longer days, I always fear the evil murderer TPLF might trap you. Please write something, it helps us at least to know that you are alive. It is known that the TPLF will invest his money to catch you through his securities.

Let God keeps you from the evil TPLF!
