Lidetu and Temesgen are traveling to the US today. My parliamentary informants have discovered TPLF's elaborate strategy to kill the bill, HR 5680. TPLF has already proposed a power sharing agreement with the Lame duck opposition in parliament. According to the informants, Temesgen's Teletafu Kinjit and Lidetu's EDP-medhin are placed to get few ministerial posts. They are already told to submit the CVs of their members to the American Embassy here in Addis. Part of the message to the American law makers will be the democrartic process is going on so well that the opposition is to get a power sharing deal.
EZ's verdict:
In Long Walk to Freedom Mandela recounted how he and Oliver Tambo received the news differently when that the Nationalist Party which run with a platform of creating apartheid won the election in 1948. "I was stunned and dismayed, but Oliver took a more considered line. 'I like this,' he said. 'I like this.' I could not imagine why. He explained, 'now we will know exactly who our enemies are and where we stand.' "
There were people, readers of this blog and others, who tried to give Temesgen a benefit of doubt while demonising Lidetu. If the power-sharing arrangement will go as planned both will be in the same basket as TPLF. They will once and for all take away their cloak of an opposition. I really Like this. Now we know whom to fight and how.
The counter-message in diaspora for the law makers should be:
-There are still thousands of political prisoners in Ethiopia including the true Kinijit leaders, journalists and anti-poverty campaigners
-There is no free speech, no free press, no freedom of demonstration, assembly (constitutional rights are still suspended by the TPLF's fiat)
-The government still has the monopoly on the state media.
-That critical websites are still closed
-That the causes of the death and destruction on June 8 and Nov. 1 aren't yet investigated independently
- There are still violence and clashes all over the country
The bill addresses overall democratic issues, not power-sharing agreement with lame duck opposition. All demands of the bill are yet to be met.

dear zagol,
I just read on ER that Dr. Merera Gudina is also part of the delegation.
I wouldn't be surprised if Lidetu tries to kill HR5680, but Dr. Merera can not go that low. I still believe there is a sense of dignity and yearing for democracy in him although his assosiation with EPRP and all defunct parties in the US has made UEDF practically jawless.
Any way it doesn't hurt to remain vigilant.
Dear Zagol,
I like it, too. I like it whenever you expose your retarded brain when you spit the trikimirki nonsense propaganda.
Please keep posting.
The anonymous above,
Did you say "retarded brain" to Ethio Zagol? Please look before you leap or less politely (you deserve this) "afhin ke mekfetih befit tinish asib".
What your "hodam" brain didn't get is Ethio Zagol is exposing TPLF's sinister agenda of fooling the west at the expense of the Ethiopian people in his works. You, Lidetu and all teletafis, who care only about kitfo & beer, will be wipped in public soon as the victory against tyrany is around the corner. The struggle of Ethiopian people for democracy and freedom can't be stopped by cheap tactics of TPLF. Hands off EZ.
The anonymous above,
Please read carefully what is written before your mouth vomit unrelated texts. Now do it! Read it again!
Dear Zagol,
This is another sterling observation and an astute analysis; thank you so much. Those of us who strongly believe that TPLF is the enemy of Ethiopia will have to fight these traitors in each and every way we can. Congressional staffers have indicated that HR 5680 will make it through the house, but whether it will make it through the senate depends on us. Those in the US have to do everything to make sure that their state senators know how they feel about the Bill. Please call, email, write, and fax. It will be helpful if you could drop in to their local offices and chat with their staffers.
We know that the new ambassador has already hired a $50K/month lobbying firm to defeat HR 5680 and recent scurrilous allegations about Kinijit & AFD is also part of this plan; so also is the adventure in Somalia by the way, to protect the Baidoa Government, which is undergoing spontaneous combustion with out any help from the Islamists. Now EPRDF is upping the ante by tossing in the ‘Mr. Lidetu Goes to Washington’ drama. Let’s hope those in the DC area will get organized enough to show Congress what we think of this caricature of an opposition.
I also agree with you and Mr. Tambo; it’s better to know who our enemies are sooner than letter.
Be safe and take care of yo!
Dear Zagol,
Please accept my admiration for your instant creation and fabrication of gossips and Alubalta. Honestly speaking you excel TPLF in fabrication of lies. By the way, you are one of our best sources of Alubalta for our daily gossip and Quch-Belu Lamognachihu program and I and my colleagues would like to thank you for that.
The struggle to free the people of Ethiopia moves off shore. Even Zagol purporting to be in Ethiopia says "The counter-message in diaspora for the law makers should be".
Wow, Ethiopia can't wait to rip the fruits of freedom made in Diasport.
THANK YOU EZ
all your informations have checked out!..you are a real ethiopian doing a great service.
God bless all Ethiopian bloggers!!
Guys, what matters is money, these days. Truth, country, the motherland Ethiopia, etc, is second. So, don't give hassle to our EZ.
Lishan
Thanks for the analysis. The real character to look like struggling for Ethiopia is not demonising TPLF. TPLF knows who their real enemies are. When Lidetu makes statements as an "Opposition Party", it is all a threatrical art. Some day they will go. Ethiopia will be free from the grip of wushetamoch.
I wonder when these lies would stop. These days people do not feel ashamed when their lies are exposed, yet they come with another BERE WOLEDE lie. There is nothing disgracefull than lairs.Yhakkkkkkkkkkkkkk
THe commentaries in Ethio Zagol are becoming as interesting as his news, it has turned to a blog spots for those who can't get their own blogs.
I am surprised and saddened by the many fabricated lies lobbied against Lidetu and UEDP_Medhin since the party made a conscious decision after holding the party’s General Assembly and departed from CUD to chart their own course to advance the struggle for freedom, democracy, the respect of sovereignty and the upholding of the rule of law in Ethiopia for Ethiopians. How come we failed to question the factories of lies that keep on telling us unashamingly in the name of based on “reliable sources” to produce single evidence so far? As they say Fool me once shame on you but Fool me twice shame on me. How many times do we have to be fooled be for we say enough is enough? Where is our time tested Ethiopiawi chewanet? The my way or the highway unhealthy political culture of that generation is still working at its fullest trust; and we are basically ripping what we saw.
Let us see the facts related to the current trip of Lidetu to the USA:
FACT NUMBER ONE: Lidetu is traveling to the USA upon the invitation of the state department of USA as part of their world wide Leadership capacity building program.
FACT NUMBER TWO: Lidetu is not here in the USA to lobby against the HR bill.
FACT NUMBER THREE: the US Congress and Senate are closed for business effective from Monday August 1, 2006 until fall. Therefore, it shouldn’t take a rocket scientist to see how much the fabricated stories lack semblance of a remote truth.
FACT NUMBER FOUR: The prime agenda of UEDP_Medhin as we speak is expanding the party’s grass-root organizational basis and educating the public on what the party stands for.
FACT NUMBER FIVE: As some would like us to believe, UEDP_Medhin is not an ethnic or village groupie. I challenge any one in here if they can tell us a political party leadership makeup in the opposition as diverse as the make up of Ethiopia like UEDP_Medhin. UEDP_Medhin is a party of ideas and ideals. It is this core value of the party that makes it strong, vibrant and agile than any party in the opposition as we speak. This quality of the party is recognized by the millions of Ethiopians within Ethiopia and is expanding every day like a wild fire.
Enough is enough!!! We will not let you go scot-free and unanswered with your ugly lies!!!
This blog is not from Ethiopia. It is a blog running with rumors fetched from Ethiopia using 5 calling cards a day in addition to some gossips from Washington DC. Ask Berhane Mewa... he will tell you
Dear EZ,
Thank you for the information. It seems to me that most of the comments here are from supporters of Lidetu Khidetu and his allies. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he himself and his groupie are the above commentators. The Lidetus and the Temesgens must think power-sharing means is being appointed ministers by Meles. Do they also believe that he cannot fire ministers if he so wishes?
I have great faith in the wisdom of the Ethiopian people. They will no longer be fooled by the likes of the Lidetus, etc. Why else would they ask government protection, if they were as popular as he would have us believe as per the above comments.
Keep up the good work, EZ.
Dear EZ,
There is a quotation by Franklin D Roosevelt that says:
"Repetition does not transform a lie into a truth."
but if do a coordinated effort, why not?
Yours,
Debteraw
Ethio-Zagol,
From the beginning, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation of what you are doing. You are one of the true Ethiopians who nourish Kinijit’s spirit. I do believe our imprisoned leaders (Hiailu Shawel, Birtukan Mediksa, Prof. Mesfin W/Markiam, Dr. Befekadu Degefe, Dr. Brehanu Nega, Dr. Hailu Araya, Mulunek Eyuele, Dr Yacob Hailemariam, Gizachew Shiferaw, Sileshi Tena, Abayneh Berhanu, and others) saw the seeds of Kinijit’s spirit in every Ethiopian Heart. The seed has grown and bloomed flowers in our hearts; we will see its fruit in the near future.
For long time, your blog is the first thing I check when I go online. Please, be careful; we don’t want your voice silenced too.
Abdisaaga
Dearest EZ,
Yes I support the above comment. But one thing I would like to add is that mentioning Kinijit's leaders’ names or showing their photos or cursing TPLF is not enough to prove to people that you are telling the truth as that trick is losing its taste. You have to use more creative ways to convince people that you are providing the truth, only the truth.
Dendir,
oh Yea! That is why his own people were telling your rooster on a weather vane(Beyene) to get lost. This spineless, gutless bench warmer has made shuffling a life time profession. FYI read Enset blog.
EDPA dogs the loot money Meles the godfather is throwing your way is making you act like a rabid dog.
Zagol is untouchable!
Hi,
WE ARE NOT LIVING BUT SURVIVING!!

Also listen to voa 29 july, for the report by
Nuamin bikila on the hardship in Addis.

Please keep up your work.as i told there is a a dedicated
anonymous weyane commenting to discredit your achievements.
he usually post on 3rd or 4th.
Guys this spinless hodam called Beyene Petros has a 16 year old student son In Dallas, Texas. He bought him a brand new car while he came to Dallas last year. Where did you think he got the money to buy the car for his son? It's the money he collected from diaspora Ethiopians.
One more thing about this FERI, HODAM Beyeneye Petros...I had a cousin working in the ministry of Education while Beyene was a Minister. He told me Beyene was betam FERI , he won't approve or sign about anything. Because of his ferinet nothing wasn't getting done.
EZ as ever you are doing great in creating a forum where ideas can be ventilated. I was reading a book called Elusive peace, it follows a BBC documentary and i was gripped and fascinated how the two arch enemies Israelis and Palestinians were negotiating using Clinton good offices while in public they were adotping entrenched positions, i really recommend it, it shows how negotiators were going in each room and putting forward mutually agreable scenaiors to solve the problem, so the morale of the story instead of engaging in the well rehearsed and very comfortable megaphone diplomacy and using extreme language lets try to be creative and think how we can find local and international mediators to solve the crisis, it may mean we have to also make painful decision which would involves concessions we would not want to admit in public but for the common good we should be big enough to do so. I hear President Carter is going to meet both parties i say although we should ask for the release of our leaders we should b able to put forward other constructive ideas how to resolve this impasse. As for Lidetu i don't think it is helpful to paint him as a traitor, as i said before if we had a mature democracy when an elected politician no longer stand on the ticket he was elected on, he would call a by-election and seek a new mandate i suspect Lidetu will not do that. However maybe he should be approached to find out if he could be a go between. Ppl may think i am naive i simply despair when i read pages after pages of polemic which does not advance the situation. it is just an idea from an humble concerned ethiopian.
Long live agere
Ask the double agents in the likes of Birhanu Mewa and Kiflu Tadesse to serve as a go-between. They were and still are implants of Woyane who are doing their dirty job with in the opposition.
I am appalled at the personal attacks against Prof. Beyene. It is one thing to oppose him, but it is a completely different thing to go as low as attacking his son in Texas or wherever. Don't forget that he is a professor and has been doing many studies and sabathicals at foreign universities. He doesn't need your two dollars contribution to buy his son a car.
People like you make the opposition look bad.

I eschew censorship and I was allowing everbody to have a field day on the blog. Yet things are getting out of control. I don't want my blog to be used for calling Prof. Beyene petros a "hodam". I disagree with his decisions post-election but that doesn't give me a right to allow the forum being used to insult him. let's be civilized without calling each other hodams bla bla..
As to Lidetu, there will be a democracy in Ethiopia in few years with robust and independent press and we will see what transpires about what he did in the past then. I think those supporters who still think he made dissenting but strategic choice would be stunned when the whole truth comes out with evidences.
For those participating in the forum, I once again demand to be civil. You can call me anything. That I can tolerate. But don't insult other persons here.Don't make me clean opinions.
PLEASE A BOOK CALLED ELUSIVE PEACE IT WILL TEACH YOU A LOT ABOUT HOW THE PALESTINIANS AND ISRAELIS TRIED TO RESOLVE THE CRISIS IN THE MIDDLE EAST WHEN CLINTON WAS IN OFFICE.
SORRY IT SHOULD READ A BOOK..
Thank you, brother/sister Ethio Zagol.
Yes you right. Even though we have differences with Dr Beyene that started just after the May election because of the fact that he joined TPLF Par lama without our approval, there is still a possibility of reconciling our difference and resuming our relationship. So we shouldn't allow people to attack a person that will potentially be our ally.
Yours,
Debteraw
Those who claiming that UEDP-MEDHIN is still funtional party. As far as the public knows, this party is part and parcel of KINIJIT. Those few individuals, like Lidetu, who gave up the interest of the people for their own interest, are using the good party name again to confuse people and to weaken the struggle.
It is only TPLF and its government funtionaries like NEB that supported and encouraged Lidtu's actions in keeping UEDP-MEDHIN in the legal system.
What the public knows and the fact is, the overwheliming members of the commitee including Dr. Admasu, the leader of the party have voted to merge into Kinijit. Period. The public cannot be cheated anymore like the old days with repeated claim of UEDP-MEDHIN as a party. The public recognizes that the present day leaders of the so called "UEDP-MEDHIN" are no other than "teletafi".
Some members of the party are still in jail jsut because they are members of Kinijit, not because they are UEDP-MEDHIN. Neither Lidetu nor the few opportunist who are dancing with him say nothing about them. Since mentioning about them, will expose their sinster motive even more.
Your claim that UEDP-MEDHIN still exist and the leader is Lidetu has no basis. If Lidetu has any moral, he should have created a new party since he knows that he himself has voted to merge with Kinijit. All other claims Lidetu made is only orchestrated by woyane. Any fool can understand that.
The anonymous who said that the leader is Dr Admasu, you got your information wrong. The current leader is Ato Lidetu who was elected by the general assembly. If you are still confused, ask Dr Admasu himself. You also need to understand that in the case of UEDP-Medhin, important things and policies that affect the existence of the party are well discussed and decided by the general assembly in a democratic manner, not by one individual.
Bye for now.
Dear Zagol:
You said "ethio-Zagol said...

Well, I can't agree more with your above statement except your assertion of making Lidetu and the leadership of UEDP_Medhin guilty before proven innocent. WHAT WILL MAKE YOU DIFFERENT FROM THE WOYANE CANGAROO COURT OF THE TRIAL OF THE CUD LEADERS?
Is it this kind of justice and rule of law you have in mind for Ethiopia and the Ethiopian people?
Is it this kind of media you would like to flourish in Ethiopia in your mind set?
For your information, should you be interested to challenge UEDP_Medhin; organize the venue and they will be there to give their perspective for all your questions.
Dear anonymous above:
First, know your law. In law, crime is committed when moral, material and legal elements are fulfilled. Deciding whether a particlular act or omission fulfills those elements and, is therefore, a crime or not is the business of courts.
I didn't claim Lidetu made a trespass of the laws of Ethiopia. I made a political opinion. I said, Lidetu's decision wasn't a dissenting strategic decision. I think it is far crueler than that. I have met with people who said to me they were in Ziway and were released after signing to work with Lidetu. I have met the former guard of UEDP-Medihn who told me that he was arrested minutes after he had a small misunderstanding with Lidetu and taken to Ziway. I have met many people who were former supporters of Lidetu but were constantly harassed and abused by security personnel when they left him after his problem with Kinijit. Those testimonies may not be exclusive evidences to convict Lidetu in court of law. Yet because I have no doubts about their veracity and truth, I have formed a political opinion based on them. I think Lidetu wasn't just a simple dissenter. I want the Ethiopian media to listen to the stories of the people like the guard and the many Ziway prisoners I mentioned. I want the Ethiopian media to scrutinize public personalities. I want commentators on Ethiopian media to have no qualms to form political opinions and air them based on evidence without being meddlesome in the works of the judiciary.
As to UEDP-Medihn, this is the one topic that I find very uninteresting in the country's political discourse right now. I don't care whether the part exists or not; whether the general assembly had made this decision or that. Many former UEDP members were very angry when the party made a claim of miraculous resurrection although it agreed to merge with the three other parties in Kinjit and thus dissolve. For me part politics is secondary. I support kinijit as I feel it's gone way beyond a political party and turned into a movement for democracy in Ethiopia.
How do we know that the zebegna and other "witness" you talked to are not manipulated by the Hailu's group who were always hated Lidetu.
Look, when the whole election started, the vast majority of people did not know about who Kinijit was. The only persons whom they knew was either Lidetu and Dr Berhanu. The others including your Hailu Shawel were that much loved or recognized.
It is because of the debates where Dr Berhanu and Lidetu played leading role that the whole country fell in love with Kinijit and not because of your Hailu who just mumble during BBC interview.
CUD became what it is now because of Lidetu and Berhanu.
So why are all the fuss against Lidetu.
Is it because you (CUD leadership) want to hide your mistacks by focusing Lidetu. If it is how politics work in CUD then you are bound to repeat your mistacks agai and again.
the above anon.
I think you need to be careful before you accuse people who suffered in the concentrattion camp of Zeway of being manipulated. I think EZ is right public figures need to be exposed and challenged with facts and testimones of ppl who suffered as result of their acts or ommissions and made to account for their actions. I simply despair how we ethiopians engaged in the cult of personality, we should stop this. However i admire kinjit leaders if there is evidence that they fell short of what is expecting of them i will be among the ppl who will call for them to respond so i say to the Lidetuites who live in the diaspora and see democracy in action in their respective countries to suspend judgment until the evidence is presented. As for what Lidetu did, to me is treacherous for the simple reason he could have used his position for the release of our leaders rather than to be a mouth piece for the TPLF regime. As to what dendir said about Dr Beyene it beggars belief and i seek divine intervention to understand. Is he really saying that when the people elected Dr. Beyene he stood on a platform that said he would work hand in hand with the TPLF regime, i simply cannot recall that. it would be interesting to conduct an audit to see how the ppl who elected Dr. Beyene benefited because of his actions. Dendir goes on about extremists in DC, i would heed EZ's advice and would resist the temptation to respond in kind but want to ask dendir what is extremist about asking for our leaders to be released, for hne daily humna rights violations to stop. I URGE ALL OF YOU TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHAT IS IN INTEREST OF THE PARTY WE SUPPORT AND THE NATIONAL INTEREST AND ENSURE WE PUT THE NATIONAL INTEREST FIRST.
Long live agere
Dear Zagol:
You have made three distinct allegations based on "first hand information" you yourself came across in your search for the "truth". These are:
1. You have met with people who said to you they were in Ziway and were released after signing to work with Lidetu;
2. You have met many people who were former supporters of Lidetu but were constantly harassed and abused by security personnel when they left him after his problem with Kinijit; and
3. You have met the former guard of UEDP-Medihn who told you that he was arrested minutes after he had a small misunderstanding with Lidetu and taken to Ziway.
You see, now you have created a shield for your lies. I said this because if asked to come out with your hard evidence, I can anticipate what your answer is going to be i.e. the safety and security of your "informants" will suddenly become paramount important. Sir, you are just fooling yourself. BTW, your story of the guard is a fiction. All the guards that used to work for UEDP_Medhin are still alive and work with the party. Any ways, we have heard and read so many allegations. Like you, no one could produce single evidence. Yours is also part and parcel of the hate campaign waged by some partician elements within CUD member organizations which we know a long time ago and are the once who drove the good start of CUD to such a sad ending. Like it or not, the Ethiopian people will not rest until the Woyane junta is removed from power!!!!!
Dendir i never consider myself to be extreme au contraire anyway i am still at loss as to how making a comment such mouth piece of TPLF can be described as extreme. As for Dr. Beyene et al i have respect for the man all i was humbly suggesting was whether the poor peasant of hadiya were told when they went to the elections what he is currently doing, that i think is very simple to comprehend.
As for the concentration camp you are sir/madam engaged in tautological argument, the existence or otherwise of a concentration camp is not defined by the jews, can i tell you there were many concentration camps in ethiopia during the dergue regime, it is the inhumane concidition under which our compatriots are held that turns a detention centre into a concentration camp and nothing to do with jews.
I agree with you the elections were competitive but i am sure you agree with me its aftermath was appalling i think even you can see that , as regards the ppl you blams for wanting Meles & Co to go, as you keep reminding me that i should listen to the ppl who voted Dr. Beyene ,the Meles & their acolytes should do the same, i hope you will be consistent.
I am all for nurturing but i am yet to see the signs that render you so optimistic. i think when you see injustice it should trouble your conscience. TPLF was never voted in and ruled by dictat for so long so why now engaged in the most brutal systematic anhilation of many young people is beyond me.
For the record i do not live in DC and again it shows your mentality, it would help to engage with the issues rather brush ppl with the same brush and assign motives that are supported by evidence.
What is extreme for calling that the voice of the voiceless be respected and the true verdict be acted upon.
there is nothing wrong with supporting TPLF if one can reconcile what its doing with one conscience if not a degree of soul searching is required.
As to the last anon who attacked EZ i am really amazed by what you say, whether to believ what EZ said is your perogative there is no need for this diatribe.
slight amendement my earlier comment should read For the record i do not live in DC and again it shows your mentality, it would help to engage with the issues rather brush ppl with the same brush and assign motives that are NOT supported by evidence.
Please listen to the interview to understand the purpose of the trip. Too much lies would only undermine the cause of CUD.
