From paris a blogger speaks...Andrew Heavens denies what the government admits...

In the past year, this blogger had been one of the few foreigners in Addis Ababa who knew what Ethiopians really, really think. Why? Because he tried! He talked to teenagers on the streets, Somalis in Ruanda and worked at Fortune where he met journalists with diverse views.
It is sad that he left Ethiopia two weeks ago. But even from paris, he hasn't relented. He puts people like Andrew Heavens to shame. On his last post, Andrew called the round-up stories unsubstantiated. Last sunday, a top official of Addis Ababa Police, Tesfaye Meresa, admitted to the Amharic Reporter that they had arrested some people as a preventive measure. These days Andrew has turned into such a government apologist that he could even deny what the government admitted.

See an American speaks about Ethiopia from a french city.

Good observation EZ. Mr. Andrew is an apologist for the Tplf regime. May be he is planted in Ethiopia to make nice image for the regime. The BBC reporter, Amber Henshaw (His wife or girlfriend) is also an apologist for the regime. She has never written anything about the widespread human rights violations in Ethiopia not a single time. She didn't write about the anti-Somalia war sentiment among the general public in Ethiopia while others did. She rather reported about the death of two baby lions. That speaks volumes about her. Don't forget that the Tplf regime has a habit of corrupting foriegn journalists and politicians. The regime spends millions of dollars on lobby firms in DC and London.

Ethiopians very well know that the war was a US sponsered war by the mercenary Weyane army. Ethiopians have no business in Mogadishu beyond securing our border. All the war beyond our internationally recognized border is America's proxy war. May be the result is a blessing in disguise for freedom loving Ethiopians. If Somalia gets on its feets, the US will directly deal with the Somalis through thier own Embassy and channels bypassing Weyane. That is a bad news for weyane. I think a united and peacefull Somalia is not in the interest of Weyane, because it will lose its middle man status (Milking the cash Cow). Now it is time to challenge Weyane in the US Congress.

Anons,

Senator Joe Biden, the incoming Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee is going to hold a hearing in January. Can't wait for him to grill that loud mouth sista Jendayi. Also please read Congressman Payne's Press Release. Somalia is going to be a hot potatoe for all concerned.

I used to like Andrew Heaven's blog. He did a good job during the election period. But after some time, may be due to his friends expulsion (AP reporter Anthony Mitchel) he is either quite on sensitive issues or outright counterpropoganda on some reports out of Ethiopia. May be he afraid the regime would strip his work permit. Who knows?

Ten things the West should do if it wants peace on Earth
By Sereke Berhan
December 30, 2006

Several opposition leaders, journalists and activists are still in jail in Ethiopia where democracy has been brutally hijacked since May 2005. The West has ignored this gross injustice and keeps providing assistance to a group of thugs knowing that the government has continued with its suppression of the popular democratic movement.

Emboldened by the encouragement it receives from the West, the rogue regime has embarked on a military adventure in Somalia claiming that it is conducting a preemptive strike to safeguard Ethiopia's interest. The threat could have been neutralized by diplomatic means but war was what the West wanted and the government has been assisted to pursue this goal. The resources being wasted for the war effort could have been used to feed, clothe and treat millions of hungry and sick Ethiopians and Somalis, but that is not considered to be a pressing priority.
The West has effectively undermined the power and clout of the United Nations and the organization is no longer a viable entity. The vision of an influential United Nations where the problems of the world could be amicably resolved by peaceful means has become a thing of the past. A supposedly civilized Western world has made the United Nations the springboard from which uncivilized wars and barbaric atrocities committed by power-mongers are legitimized. Sadly the once august body is now a platform for powerful nations to fulfill their desires by dominating wicked and compliant individuals who hold power in weak nations.
The Ethiopian saga is just one sad story in the eastern corner of the continent, but similar situations, where thousands are massacred senselessly abound everywhere. And in every case the West has its hands in the name of protecting its interest. For some reason or another, situations are exacerbated to address the fears, desires, needs and aspirations of Western governments. Is this tactic really taking us towards a peaceful future? Westerners should start recognizing that unless this dangerous trend stops, the world will have no peaceful future.
Here are ten things that Westerners should start to ponder about if they truly want their claim for peace on earth to be a reality:

1- STOP INSTALLING OUR LEADERS FOR US – The ruthless, shrewd and manipulative leaders you elevate to power in our name may have the vulnerabilities that you need to help you safeguard your selfish interest. But they have never been and will never be good for their own people. Give us a chance to nurture our own democracy. We have as much right and desire for democracy as you do. Don’t impose a fake one on us.
2- STOP DIVIDING US – There is a lot that binds us together than you lead us to believe. We may have our differences but they can easily be reconciled if you stop meddling in our affairs. If diversity is your source of strength and creativity, it could also be positively harnessed in our case.
3- STOP SUPPLYING ARMS AND/OR DESTRUCTIVE ASSISTANCE TO GOVERNMENTS, REBELS OR OPPOSITION GROUPS – The huge amount of weaponry that you supply in the developing world is the main cause of the horrendous atrocities committed around the world and brutal conflicts could simply be avoided if arms were not supplied.
4- STOP DUMPING YOUR UNNEEDED GOODS AND SERVICES ON US – This includes consumer goods, gadgets, unqualified personnel and services. Give us a chance to meet our basic requirements before you inundate our markets and our minds with your enticing junk. Ignorance, mismanagement and lack of know-how are the main causes for our poverty. Don’t exacerbate them by adding fuel to the fire.
5- STOP IMPOSING YOUR IDEAS ON US – Give us some room to achieve the basics in our own way. Your constant interference and imposition are stunting our social and economic development. Democracy and free market may be good concepts but they get distorted when they come to us to satisfy your needs and they only benefit you. We do not have the necessary safeguards to protect the weak. And without the checks and balances in place they breed selfishness, corruption and decadence, which subject the majority of us to abject poverty.
6- STOP SATISFYING YOUR WANTS IN THE NAME OF ASSISTANCE OR HUMANITARIAN AID – Give from your heart and don’t do it with strings attached. You are looking for more when you have enough. Understand that you are trampling on innocent lives to get what you want.
7- STOP BEING SELFISH – Think in-terms of the human family and measure your success in moral achievement rather than by the amount you spend or get in return. The world belongs to all of us and we also deserve as much life, liberty and happiness as you do.
8- STOP DUMPING YOUR WASTE ON US – This includes chemicals, drugs, pests, diseases and scientific screw-ups. What you may throw away on us may come back to you in another form and it may someday be the cause for your own demise.
9- STOP TAKING AWAY THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST FROM US – Brainwashing, luring and manipulating the well educated by using economic incentives, bribery, intimidation and other forms of coercion have caused us to loose those who have the capability to improve conditions in Africa. The poor sacrificed a great deal to educate these people in one way or another, but in the end you are the ones benefiting from them. You steal their hearts and minds as soon as they are ready to contribute in the land where they are most needed.
10- STOP MANIPULATING EVERYTHING FOR THE SAKE OF DOMINANCE – Cooperation and understanding could lead to a much better world than confrontation and arrogance. You can win our hearts if you believe in our equality. Understand that your material power can only dominate physically not spiritually.
Remember, your achievements, however great and awesome, are diminished by the reality that there is a disproportionate number of human beings that are suffering beyond imagination under regimes and administrations that you support and prop up for selfish reasons. Many people, young and old who have the potential to do wonders for humanity if given the chance are being wasted. Your shortsighted vision for the world will only lead to misery, which will eventually consume you despite your technology and power. The way you are going; you do not seem to realize that you are jeopardizing your own future as well as that of your children.

Ten things the West should do if it wants peace on Earth

FIRST THANK YOU SEREKE FOR RECOGNIZING THIS FACT.

The resources being wasted for the war effort could have been used to feed, clothe and treat millions of hungry and sick Ethiopians and Somalis, but that is not considered to be a pressing priority.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT HERE? THE MONEY THAT WAS USED TO BUY ARMS AND PAY THE SALARIES OF THE SOLDIERS DYING IN SOMALIA IS NOT COMING OUT OF TPLF/WEYANE POCKET. IT IS COMEING OUT OF THE WEST (USA) AND MELES IS DOING THE DIRTY JOB FOR THEM IN AN EXCHANGE FOR MONEY FOR HIS ORGANIZATION AND SOLDIERS PAY TO CONTINUE TO STAY IN POWER.

With regards to some of your ten points, I suspect they may be designed to exonerate TPLF and make us focus on the West for all ills Ethiopia has today, but it is not the work of the West, it is the woek of TPLF. The West merely plays the game TPLF makes available and the West (USA, in particular) may have very small to neglegible effect to influence in Ethiopia if it is NOT allowed in to begin with.

1- STOP INSTALLING OUR LEADERS FOR US:

I don't think the West (USA) has the power to install leader unless the people accept it, it will not be able to function regardless what USA does. The reason why we have Meles as a Leader is because of WEYANE and AGAZI a military force made up of 100% Tegres. That is what makes it posible for Meles to be in power. Believe me True-Ethiopians have already rejected Meles and WEYANE long time ago. It is true rejection is not good enough they have to back their rejection with REAL action.

2- STOP DIVIDING US:

Again its not the West dividing us it is TPLF/WEYANE that has successfully implemented a devide and rule policy on the Real Ethiopian people.

3- STOP SUPPLYING ARMS AND/OR DESTRUCTIVE ASSISTANCE TO GOVERNMENTS, REBELS OR OPPOSITION GROUPS:

4- STOP DUMPING YOUR UNNEEDED GOODS AND SERVICES ON US:

8- STOP DUMPING YOUR WASTE ON US:

um um that is not a good point at all. Where do you think the West dump its older version of weaponaries? They have to find people who would use the older version weapons while they continue to invent new ones. Its simply economics, demand/supply.

5- STOP IMPOSING YOUR IDEAS ON US:

6- STOP SATISFYING YOUR WANTS IN THE NAME OF ASSISTANCE OR HUMANITARIAN AID:

Unless you accept'em their ideas would be useless. Look at most European countries, USA does not bother them or intervine in their internal political or country's policy. Do you know why? Its because they do NOT accept the USA like TPLF/WEYANE allows them to step in and out as they wish. So the intire blame sqarely lands on TPLF/WEYANE leadership, so don't blame on others if you are looking for blem go to the source that is TPLF/WEYANE.

7- STOP BEING SELFISH:

This is more of a begging than looking for solution to your own problems, which is removing TPLF/WEYANE.

9- STOP TAKING AWAY THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST FROM US:

I call this hipocrisy, where are at? They did NOT drug your ass to the US you willingly came, in fact there are so many people who would pay so much money to come to the USA, and there are others who would die crossing deserts and oceans to get to the US, so stop being a hipocrite. What you can do is remove TPLF/WEYANE then help make Ethiopia a good country to live in then may be then people will stop dying in a bid to cross deserts and oceans.

10- STOP MANIPULATING EVERYTHING FOR THE SAKE OF DOMINANCE:

I have no comment for the last point, because all the responses above are good enough to satisfy your last point.
