Political dissident shot to death

Police shot dead a young political dissident on Wednesday at Rufael, one of the northern suburbs of Addis Ababa.

Four federal police officers dragged Tesfaye Tadesse, 25, from his friend's home at 9:45 pm and shot him thrice on his chest and twice on his back. His family found his bullet-straddled body latter.

Tesfaye a notable kinijit organizer at his neighborhood had been arrested in June and November 2005 when EPRDF embarked upon massive crack down of dissent in the country. His friends said security men had repeatedly harassed him after he was released from detention in November.

Tesfaye's autopsy revealed that he had lost three of his front teeth and one eye due to severe beating. The police officers took him to a dark area in the village and beat him, eyewitnesses claimed. "When people living in the village started surrounding the police officers who were beating him, they shot him and drove away," one witness said.

Tesfaye's friend from whose home the deceased was taken said that he was instructed to stay at the house when he asked the police officers where they were taking his friend.

Tesfaye is the sixth Kinijit organizer killed in Addis Ababa in the past week.

Thanks for the update. It's very distressing to hear such news. We know that the international community in Ethiopia know what is happening there. It is their silence which is helping the EPRDF to continue murdering and torturing innocent people with impunity. Afterall was it not the British who were training the police? Are these the methods they have been teaching the Ethiopian Police Force? We should never forget the financial, material and advisory roles the international community has given to this brutal government to perpetuate its evil deeds.

This is indeed very disturbing news. Shame on Weyane and its foot soldiers for continuing to suppress descent in such a brutal way.

It is too bad that they have not yet learnt from their predecessor that thay can kill the messenger but they can not kill the message.

I have no doubt that Tesfaye’s death will only motivate hundreds of others to raise his banner and continue to say no to dictatorship , no to repression and no to backward and barbaric rule.
Coincidentaly, readers may remember that few years ago, the regime has killed another Tesfaye Tadesse a Lawyer and HR activist in broad day light in Addis ababa.

As to the donner community, I will only say that while I acknowledge that Ethiopians have the responsibility to struggle for their rights, please use your influence for positive change in this country. please wake up and do the right thing or at least do not do the wrong this. Do not support a killer regime as it is a danger to all humanity. More cuddling will only embolden the regime and perpetuate the repression of many more. How many Ethiopians have to die before you say no and hold this regime accountable?
Is the death of hundreds and thousands not enough? Does this realy make sense?

EZ , thank you again for being a voice for the voice less.

Injustice any where is injustice every where.

It is time to take our matters to our own. Forget the donor community. They are comfortable with the dictator as long as it serves thier interset as a mercenary. They did it with Mobutu, Saddam Hussien, Samuel Doe. The Tplf regime seems to intensifay its repression under the guise of the Somalia crisis. We must intensifay our struggle.

This is an outrage. May God bless his soul and give his family strength.

Who were the other five EZ? Please post names and details so that the rest of the world knows.

Thanks.

The death of this young freedom fighter will only harden the resolve of the people around him, it will NOT kill the spirit of our struggle ulike TPLF/WOYANES strategists wish. I am positive that the people that witnessed this murder will always have this hard-feeling in their heart for many years to come. TPLF/WOYANE doesn't know that its accelerating its demise. We all know that they would NOT kill people randomly in their country (Tigrae), we know that they are only practising their killing on Real-Ethiopian children. In this particular case, its not that they don't know after beating him up senselessly one bullet is enough, but the 4-bullet signifies the four police officers involved whose face was seen when they picked him up from his friend's house. The idea is to let every TPLF police/soldier have eqaul blood on their hand, and make it difficult to hold the precise MURDERER accountable. TPLF knows, it will lose to the struggle for Freedom and Democracy and they want everyone who is benefiting from the current regime to have equal blood on their hand. That is why we will NOT distinguish between those Real-Ethiopians working with TPLF and the Tigrias protecting this murderous regime. They all are the enemy of Ethiopia and Ethiopians.

Ethiopians in Addis and major cities need to learn from other country struggle, that the random killing will only increase in the midst of silence. Only FIGHTING-FIRE-WITH-FIRE can free them all. Pick a couple of TPLF soldiers and snatch their guns then use that weapon to gain more weapon. At least you will die with dignity instead of dying in the hands of TPLF after brutalized like young Tesfaye Tadesse. Young Tesfaye should have realized that TPLF will not hesitate to put bullets in his head/chest. Let us all learn from this and other MURDERS TPLF continue to subject Ethiopians. Its time to wake up and fight Fire-with-Fire or else we will be hearing more murder as time goes on.

Fighting FIRE-WITH-FIRE is the only option we have right at this time. Let us die a few more and realize our dream of removing TPLF/WOYANE from our country. We will recognize and compensate the our fallen heroes and their families that have lost the young man/woman for TPLF bullets. We will not forget those dying in the hands of TPLF. As one African freedom fighter who rose to the presidency of his country said, "LET THE STRUGGLE CONTINUE."

Also the following EZ,

----------

January 18, 2006 ( Gimbi Oromia): Two students who are also brothers, Gemechis Bulcha Buli and Lalisa Waqgari Buli, were brutally murdered by the Woyane armed security agents on 01/03/07 evening in Gimbi town of Western Wollega Zone, Oromia regional state. The two brothers, who were students of Guddattuu Guyii School, were shot dead while they were studying at their home.

Meanwhile the parents of these students who went to Gimbi Hospital to ask the body of their children have been arrested for allegedly escaping from their home when the security agents showed up.

-------
EZ, we know that you cannot reach every corner of the country. But the atrocities perpetrated by the Woyane regime has no bounds. Recent developments show that the TPLF government has chosen to wage a samll scale "red terror" which we have been used, but the people should realize that it is only their determination to wage a concerted and unified opposition to the government that would set them free and not any international or western countries. I was watching one of the clips from Meles's speech where he dared the opposition that there is no one, repeat no one, that can save anybody who stands against his government. We should all say that we will lioberate ourselves by ourselves.

The Tplf regime just helped get rid of people who closed movie theatres in Somalia, and brought to power people who close media outlets, perhaps the most independent in our region.

Anonymous said...

"Shame on all tigreans ...we will eat you and your children like a sheep". Very very sorry to read such words. I suspect that you are trying to fulfil the government’s agenda (may be you are paid for that as a TPLF security personnel): propagating hatred, suspicion and division among Ethiopians. Who are you after all to claim such barbaric actions? You must not be healthy.

I'm sorry to say, as time goes by, I've become more suspicious of such stories. There was a time when I did support the opposition, any opposition, but after reading blatant anti-Ethiopian sentiments by the "opposition camp" in the recent ethio-somali conflict on some of these sites, I've had a change of heart. I've also seen some articles published on these sites, that are supposedly quoted from reputable sources such as Reuters, to have been embelished to support the "opposition's" position.

These "opposition" goups want power at any cost, and would be just as corrupt and murderous as the currect dictators. Just how does trading one dictator for another benefit the country?? What do I care if the current Dictators get rich instead of the Dictators rotting in prisons?? It's all the same crap, just different pile.

the weekness of the opposition does not in any way justify killing discts or any form of Human Rights violation. It is simply unacceptable and a threat to all humanity. all self respecting humans need to condemn it. Abuse , is abuse is abuse.

Anonymous said...

The weakness of the opposition is that... they are also tyrants and dictators that would kill kids on the streets of Addis just like the current dictator Meles & co. Tell me, what is the purpose of supporting thd devil you don't know when the devil you know is killing and robbing just fine??

"...What do I care if the current Dictators get rich instead of the Dictators rotting in prisons?? It's all the same crap, just different pile..."

It is natural that some part of the society gives up, some stay fierce, some will be convinced by propagandas and tactical manoeuvres, some do not loose the thread, some are partisans and some yet principled etc. It seems that you are one of those who give up very easily and surrender. If all give up like you then there will not be any social change. Are you sure that all "opposition" groups will be as Corrupt, criminals, treasonous or murderers as the present? My advice; at least try to support what ever you think is better and that may lay the foundation for the best. Don’t give up.

Quite a tragic story but I think we should have been told enough about the circumstances surrounding the killing. It's not enough to just link the victim to Kinjit. I am sure there is a great deal more to this story than what we have been told.

If there is no intention to manipulate audiences, this is a big story lacking the expected level of detail. One hopes it's not one of those politically charged bits seeking to appeal to the emotions of diaspora Ethiopians for their blind support.

Our young generations who are fighting this racist regime are tha main target of the terrorist death squad of Melese Zenawi.

It is sad some from Europe and North America are booking to dine with this regime in coming September.

The broad day light killing of our children if not a wakeup call for them let them dine and dance with the killers in the name of millennium and get the blessing from Melese and his racist buddies for financial gains in the name of starting business or building house let aside for those who come from Diaspora by betraying those who have been jailed and massacared.

I call every one to forward the names of those who are travelling to endorse and coronate Melese Zenawi as the next king of Ethiopia in coming September in Addis Ababa in the name of one's in life time celebration.

God bless the soul of the young man and be assurd the killers will come to justice one day.

Dear Ethiopians:
This is very sad and an outrageous news. The death of Ato Tesfaye Tadesse will not go in vane. He is our hero and Ethiopian artier who was a freedom fighter and gunned down on line of duty. We are proud of him and his family. May God bless his soul and give the strength to his family???
Prime minister Meles Zanwie is a blood sucker, murderer and cluless dictator. He is a mad dog and a snake full of venom. He is the enemy of the people and must be brought to justice at any cost. Meles and his Tigrian Liberation Front party members have done everything in their power to destroy any Democratic move in Ethiopia. TPLF's ideology is based on "ethnic cleansing'" and it a cover up for people who are determined to eliminate True Ethiopians Particularly to exterminate the Amhara and the Oromo peoples. The TPLF Administration is not people's government, it is an occupying force, a fascist organization which is totally rejected by the vast majority of Ethiopians. If Meles wish's to have peace with the Ethiopian people, first he should release all political prisoners with no conditions, and second have another election for democratic government.
Why I HATE MELES? Because...
1.He is 50% Ethiopian & 50% Eritrean by blood.
2.He is the only president who made Ethiopia the most populated but land locked country by giving everything for Eritrea.
3.He went to Eritrea and celebrate their independence and waved their flag with happiness.
4.He gave a huge amount of Weapons and other stuff to Eritrea by stealing from Ethiopia.
5.He talked dirty about Ethiopia flag, he killed and put in jail Thousands of Political Prisoners.
6. During Badme war with Eritrea he stop our troops from capturing the land that we already paid the price of 70 thousand Ethiopian youth Ethiopians and shake hand with Issayas.
7.He is brought back Eritreans like the information Minister Simon Bereket and giving them high position in Ethiopia and suppress Ethiopian people.
8.He worked day and night to create hate between different Ethiopian Ethnics to create another 1994 Rwanda.
9.He not only cheated and robbed the voice of Ethiopians in the May 2005 election but also put in jail all political Opposition Leaders, Journalists, Human Right Activists and all Civil Society Peace Movement Leaders.
10.He declared war against the people of Ethiopia and killed tens and thousands innocent citizens such as children and pregnant women.
11.He creates mass concentration camps, jailed tens and thousands and committed genocide.
12.He controls the media and denies the right to have free press, self expressions, and the right to travel and live peacefully in Ethiopian.
13. He not only exposed thousands and millions of innocent Ethiopians to the HIV/AIDS diseases but also begged and collected millions of Dollars in Foreign AID on the HIV/AIDS victims.
14. He is a terrorist gang and a crusader for International Zionist Organizations and Neo-colonialist nations. He invaded Somalia and killed innocent children, men and women.
God Bless Ethiopia.

HE NEVER SMILED WHEN HE ANSWERED ALL OTHER QUESTIONS BUT WHEN HE WAS ASKED HIS IDENTITY HE SMILED EAR-TO-EAR, PISS-OFF YOU TEGRE MOTHERFUC*** WHO MASSACRED MY PEOPLE TO HELP YOUR OTHER COUNTRYMEN. HOW ON EARTH ETHIOPIANS WILLBE ADMINISTERED BY HALF BLOODED ENEMY?

2.He is the only president who made Ethiopia the most populated but land locked country by giving everything for Eritrea.

3.He went to Eritrea and celebrate their independence and waved their flag with happiness.

Hi Guys,

I found this old news on the web and wanted to clarify things. Is this 'Tesfaye' another Tesfaye or the same person that was 'killed' before?

International Frredom of Expression Exchange

Journalist Tesfaye Tadesse murdered

País/Tema: Ethiopia
Fecha: 10 de junio de 1998
Fuente: Comité para la Protección de los Periodistas (CPJ)
Persona: Tesfaye Tadesse
Victimas: periodista(s)
Tipos de violaciónes: muerto
Urgencia:

(CPJ/IFEX): On 7 June 1998, at approximately 8.30 pm, Tesfaye Tadesse, the owner and editor of the magazine "Mestawet" and the newspaper "Lubar" (both presently out of circulation), was murdered in front of his residence. He was stabbed and hacked to death by two unidentified individuals using a knife and a machete. The attackers escaped the scene of the crime in a DX Toyota. CPJ sources believe that Tesfaye's murder may be politically motivated.

Tesfaye, a lawyer by training, was also an activist and a member of the Ethiopian Human Rights Council (EHRCO). He was previously jailed by Meles Zenawi's Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) when Gebre Igziabher, a member of the leadership committee of the opposition Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Party (EPRP), was murdered in Addis Ababa in mid 1993.

The above three commentators or commenter if you think this is funny or a jock remember what is going around comes around. When we took power after we demolished Derg military and moved to Addis we used to jump up and down like no one were above us. However, later we found out that what we fought for and what Melese plan in his mind had been totally different and started reviling himself and his plan slowly. Our main fight of course was Eritrea issues. Do you really know what Eritrea took from Ethiopia? It is sad but history will talk about it when time comes. Since Eritrea is independent country we demand the government to treat Eritrea as a foreign government and the people who reside in Ethiopia as a foreign citizen. A lot of Ethiopian think the war started in 1998 but in Tigria people been fighting directly with government official and blocking to stop any thing going to Eritrea. Although we always suspect Meles's interest with Eritrea to fulfill his dream of either the big Tigria or Eritrea and Tigria together he start dividing people in our organization. Do you think Sye was in prison because of corruption? If that was the case Azeb and her brother would have been the first people to join Tamarat in Prison. The main issue was Eritrea. If you guy's live in Addis you know what they did after Algiers agreement they force teachers and other civic group to accept and give to the EPRDF(Melese) support for sake of peace and stability. However, they didn't succeed the teachers and the civic groups challenge Mesfin Seyome and other EPRDF (Melese) cadre their action. You know what! Some of the people thrown out from the military and some of them ran for their life. They used to put people in the jail and they used to kill people, assassinated and know those people themselves ran to safe their life. That is why I said what is going around comes around. During derg time those people who used to abuse and killed other people when their time come they pee on their trousers. If you are a supporter of EPRDF use your right to exercise but don't try to hide a reality. Since EPRDF (Melese) is in his eage he is doing everything know until he exausted himself to survive the same way as his father murderer Mengistu Hailemariam. Like father like Son he will soon follow his foot step. If you are a human being Please feel as a human being not as a murderer and blood thirsty animal. We are taking about human right violation please for God sake we are in 21st century. Ethiopian people has a right to exercise their freedom. For the rest of the commenter Yes Tesfaye was killed unfortunately. Now he could not be able to help his people. However, he did his part. There are many Ethiopian today inside the country who are determine to give their life for their mother, father, brother, sister, for their people, and for their country. We are sad because we lost him but we are happy also because still we are committed to take this struggle to the end regardless of EPRDF (Melese} action. There are many Ethiopian inside and outside of the country determine to fight for their people vote and determine to support the brave leaders in Kaliti. Because they showed to Ethiopian people no one will take your freedom from you unless you allow it. Not a gun or a prison or a comment like the three comment above. Justice will prevail in Ethiopia soon. Please follow up with the inquiry commission west cost meeting. If you are Ethiopian and if you love your people and your country all your question would be answer by them. They aren’t part of any political organization and supporter of any organization. But they are brave Ethiopian who refused to take any reward from EPRDF (Melese) to hide the truth and extend the suffering of their people. They are the big challenge of the rootless dictator who lost his direction and now suffering with confused mental states with power in Addis.

Anonymous said...

I would like to say something also about those people who act like a proof seeker's but act ignorant to ask a reliable source or a media knowing that when EPRDF (Melese) killed those innocent who demand their right to be respected during day light and then they used to fight with the resident to take a way the body of those who were killed to hide from the media. Of course ETV might be their reliable resource now because many true Ethiopian who determine to stand for truth were refused to read false news and fired from their job. When you live you have to live with your conscious not with money or the attention and the support you gother around from different people. You are always remaining with your own conscious at the end of the day. Even if you are married your wife or your husband does not share with you what you have in your mind. You would be the one who is suffering from inside. I think we always associate situation with power but no one with clear mind would do this kind of crime to innocent people. I know many people during the struggle lost their mental stability because of trauma and ideology but now still acing as a leader and function as a government officials. When you bring wild animal and let him stay with you as a domestic animal you might be succeed in the beginning but after a while if the animal see some dramatic change he would caught with fear and jump on you because he had unstable mental status. He grows up not with a mental status of negating or working together. He always tries to take over by power of gun. Please don't be paranoid. Think with proper state of mind and see each other with respect and as a part of society not as enemy. When we see someone right was violated let we all say together it is not right. If we don't say it today before it comes and knocks our door we will be the next victim. You are probably laughing today but you will cry tomorrow as Tesfaye family today. Let God be with them to give them courage and wisdom to pass through their hard days in front of them. However, for us to prevent this from happening again in our country we all should say enough is enough. Don't let fear govern your direction. The color of fear is always dark. Always freedom comes after brave determination and action and the color of freedom and determination is bright. Le we all work hard to bring this for our people before the millennium. I know we don't want to our country go to the new centuries the same way. We all need to work hard not only by wishing to bring the freedom and to control poverty in our country. Today is Tesfaye but we will continue to do it every day until the Ethiopian people vote is respected and those brave leader who determine to stand for their people freedom out of the prison.

Some of you filthy mouth ppl. are the cause of our misery. One of you posted "Shame on you all tigreans", how dare you say that? Don't you know that the journalist who was pregnant and had her baby in jail only to have her baby taken from her and still languishes in jail is Tigrean, her name is Serkalem Fasil(kinijit), Dr.Hailu Araya(kinijit), Eskindir Nega(kinijit)and there are many more. But I guess you could be working for Woyane or you must be a natural hater. A person with a normal mind and a normal family wouln't be so stupid like this. Yes we have many more Amharas, Oromos, and so on who have become wealthy, powerful and feared as they are the tools of EPRDF. But you are so coward to point at the poor Tigreans and you will definitely make no sense.

Hi Diaspora,
One of the stupid Diaspora wrote "... will eat you like a sheep." Kikikiki. This is one reflection of the Diaspora hooliganism (not civilized politics) full of hatred. By now you must be able to fully understand who is propagating hatred and ethnicity! In a nation where there is rule of law, we have no space for hooligans such as this removed person to entertain and allow to seed another Rwanda. Enough is enough!

To be honest, I see no difference between Eritrean and other Ethiopians.. notice I said "other ethiopians", because Eritrea is Ethiopia. It's just demarcated by a temporary border, so having Eritreans as politicians in Addis(corrupt, murderous, whatever... ) just brings us one step closer to unity.

Mr. Anonymous, may I suggest that your shut your retarded pie hole.

I just want to tell to Anonymous who wrote to Diaspora!, Don't use this forum to spread your own propaganda to propagating hatred because of the minor comment. We used to spread a bad wording on Amhara purposely during our struggle to gain attention and support from other ethnic group. Now it is backfiring on us. We used to blame Amhara for everything. Those days are past but know what is going around comes around. My friend instead of picking up the minor comment for negative purpose you need to use your energy and speak louder for the worsen human right violation in the country. Even if you are Tigrian you should know what is going on in Adigrat, Sherai, Wolkaiehit, raya, and Mekele. Unless you are a supporter of EPRDF(Melese) you know no one hate Tigian. Please if you want to support EPRDF(Melese) that is fine. We respect your choice but don't try to label someone for your own interest. Please if you have time for a positive feedback check Ethiomedia archive for an article posted by Ethiopian from Tigrai region tilted “ Not on My name “ Lets all hold hand to hand and prevent the human right violation by EPRDF(Melese) in our country. Today may be Tesfaye but remember tomorrow probably they will knock your family, it might be your brother, or sister, or cousin, or nephew, or uncle...... They all Ethiopian. They deserve a right to express themselves. Let me tell you what the chairman of CUD, Engineer Hailu Shawl, said ,if I am not mistaken in one of his visit to Afar region, "Our enemy is fear, fear of prison, prison in cell isn't different than the prison you are in now. You are in prison now because you don't have any right. You have to do what some on tell you to do.” If someone said he does not like your color of your eye “ unfortunately the prime Minster he will kick you out from your country. You don’t have a right to respond no. You can't say you don't want to do it because you don't have a right or a freedom in your own country. and he said you have to come out of fear and stand for your own freedom." I did know this until June and November 2005 our people were in prison. They are not in the cell but they are in prison and the saddest part is some one is making a decision on your mother, father, sister, uncle, cousin.....life every day. Let stop the foolish comment and Stand for those people who are crying from Ethiopia. We are their hope after God. We wouldn’t disappoint them. They will see the light very soon.

It is not to long to forget those who give the ultimate sacrifies to pay once life for the betterment of others.

The cry of Ethiopian familes is not dry yet.Their sadness goes back 16 yrsthey have lost their loved one to TPLF/Melese inc dictators .It has happen all over the county the killing in addis ababa,Awasa,Gonder,Awasa and Gambella is a few to count.

Even though we can not share fully their burden we share the sadness with them. They lost the best they have the memmory is not far to forget their sacrifies is the highest sacrifies.

We want to grief with them we want to share their sadness them to support them .

We want to thinking about those who are inprision those in detention camp.

I suggest we have to organize fund rasing by listing the name all victims killed under Woyane their name the day they are killed we have to organize prayer fund rasising to support the family and to advace the cause they died for.To do so we have to find respectful honest organizers during ethiopian mellenium celeberation.

Let not forget, let not lose hope at last truth and justice will win the day.

It is pure ignorance. Those of you who has been advocating hate are prolonging Meles's life in power. The tigrie people have been used just like everyone of us if not more. The main difference between Meles now and Meles 35 years ago is that Meles 35 years ago, as a young person, had the dream and the ambition to disintegrate Ethiopia. Today's Meles has already realized his dream; he doesn't dream anymore because there isn't much evil left to dream for. The jailing, the killing, and his recent hard-to-come-back journey to Somalia are not new dreams; they are all the spillover effects of his original dream
