EZ diary: Meles and the docs

Meles's famously imaginative mind has come up with a brilliant new plan, and it is supposed to solve the crisis in our health sector. Our talkative PM was part of the discussion on the shortage of doctors in Ethiopian health institutions. Estimates put that there is one doctor for 30 thousand Ethiopians.

Among the main reasons for the shortage of doctors raised in the discussion was their flight to countries paying better than Ethiopia; Botswana and Malawi being the main destinations. More than 80% of Ethiopian trained doctors are living and working abroad.

Meles was unconcerned with the scarcity of physicians in Ethiopia. He told the participants of the discussion that Ethiopia did not need doctors. Astonished health officials and physicians heard the sophomore dropout from medical school say; "We don't need doctors in Ethiopia. What we need are health officers. We will train five thousand in three years. Let the doctors leave to wherever they want. They should get no special treatment." Whatever we say about Meles, he does not stop surprising us. What next? Dismantling the medical faculties which train doctors?

The guy is so smart Botswana and Malawi should really thank him for his never ending generosity towards their burgeoning economy at the expense of his own people. Now, not only that these two countries do not need to train doctors, but in a year or so we will also supply them with thousands of well trained fresh health officers his government failed to provide with adequate benefits. Every time he opens his mouth stupidity and sheer incompetency pours out.

The guy (Meles) is not smart. He is a murderer. He killed about 73 Derg officers who were prisoners of war in 1978 by ordering personally to drink a water that was poisened by rat poisen.

the growing level of hateful diaspora propaganda is really sickening.

how long are you going to tell our ethiopian brothers and sisters in america and europe more and more lies??? have you no shame???

seminawork and other propaganda machines are the worst problems for ethiopia because we can always reconciliate if we don't have evil liers like seminawork.

how can you say meles zenawi doesn't care about doctors and health care?? how can you lie like this??
it is so easy to discredit you but i am not going to waste my time.
just read these website links to know about how much meles zenawi is helping and giving allowance to doctors [ http://nazret.com/blog/index.php?title=ethiopia_doctors_to_get_house_allowance_&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 ]

and also expanding health care service [http://www.allbusiness.com/government/3687165-1.html ]

and more commitments [ http://216.24.170.159/news/documents/doc1857.html ]

asking for diaspora like us to help ethiopians [ http://www.boston.com/news/world/africa/articles/2005/03/06/africa_luring_back_many_expatriates/ ] and even meles zenawi's wife dedicating her life to health care http://www.aigaforum.com/audiovideo/Azeb_mesfin_on_HIV_AIDS.asx

dear seminawork, please please please stop lying to these innocent people!!! please stop this nonsense.
help all sides reconcile instead of creating hate, division and bitterness because of lies.

lies will only anger one side or the other and lengthen the time ethiopians find relief with all of this propaganda and conflict.

please stop the lies. stop the name calling. stop all this nonsense. stop giving false information to our diaspora people.

PLEASE!

Amazing. I can't believe what I just read. Well, I take that back. Pathetic as u are, seminawork, it shouldn't surprise me. You are pathetic because you don't even know how to package your moronic prejudice with some truthful garbage. Instead, you call the Prime Minister an uneducated drop-out. Your prejudice is self-evident. Listen girly, the Prime Minister didn't drop out so that he can exploit the entire nation like your relative in Addis did. He dropped out to fight in the jungles while useless self-obsessed elitist suck the blood of all Ethiopians. Listen you blood sucking freak, make your lies more digestable by covering them with a semblance of truth. While you burn in your intenstinal core for seeing the transformation of Ethiopian society by those you think aren't "real" Ethiopians. You will die of ulcer from the pain of wintessing a transformation, as we transform this nation from the backwardness that your self-obsessed relatives imposed on it to a NEW ETHIOPIA.

Ethiopia does not need anymore PILOTS, it needs only TAXI drivers, that is according to Meles.

To the third anon, What Ethio Zagol

We first read your propaganda then we came and visited, and we saw the misery and that was before the government became rabid due to loosing the "election" Your effort falls on ears and eyes that has seen plenty.
As to the media you have listed above I would believe it if they had an iota of freedom to express what they honeslty felt. As to the wife give us a break she is even a worse liar than her husband,

Peace out, poor soul.

No surprise about how this sick man is thinking. he is the very person who dismantled the AIDs prevention office in 1993 and exposed hundreds of thousands to HIV infection and thousands to death.
For Meles no thing matters except protecting his power.
How sad. The good news is that Mels has no credability in any thing.

Meles Zenawi, whose real name is LEGESSE GEBRE

Is the most lying low self esteem begar, if anyone thinks he is smart is not only they are fooling themselves but they are paid agents who have been telling us how genius he is for the last few years. Let me tell you one thing, he never completed any of the things he started. By definition those kinds of people are known to be QUITERS, and he fits that definition very well.

Legesse couldn't finish his assignements while enroled in the British open long distance correspondence college, he was sent an educated professor to tutor him, so he can speed up his time duration. Surprisingly, he was allowed to complete one course in 4-hours lecture and he was assisted as to what answer. At some point he was unble to withstand the mental pressure of knowledge he collapsed. His professor was allowed to stay longer so when Legesse recovered he continue the lecture. After they told him he had completed a course they would recommend a book for him to read in a hope he will get the gist of what the course was about.

Legesse was not the only one that attended the open university, mesfin syoum and other TPLF core including some one who was a 8th grade dropout TPLF was given the same degree as Leggese

why does it seem that Meles is writing multiple comments above? Not surprising - Thank you sooooo much EZ - let the world know

Anonymous said...

Dear EZ,
First of all, I would like to thank you very much for taking so much risk to share with the rest of the world the suffering of Ethiopians on a daily basis. Very interesting news regarding the health sector if the story is indeed true. One minor correction is that there are not more than a couple of Ethiopian doctors in Malawi. Though I am not a doctor I live in Malawi. Nevertheless, this minor error does not in anyway reduce the importance of the disturbing development that you have reported.

Anonymous said...

EZ,

You're reporting the truth but I want to add the following to it. Because of the continuing problem (fleeing to other countries), from what I know, there is a new system in effect but not sure if this is already implemented. After completion of studies/graduation all trained doctors must give service, in other word must work in rural areas as well in the city Addis Ababa. The duration of this new service program is about five years. You might know about this already.
One more thing, their official graduation documents will be held until they completed the 'must give' service. After that and as it was already said by Meles 'Let the doctors leave to wherever they want'.

m. (who can handle the truth)

This is how dictators are. They think they know everything about everything. Meles, just because he talks more than others, thinks that he is the smartest person in that country. His stooges are not helping either. They are always trumpating how much that country needs an "intelligent" person like him and how doomed we would be without him.
This guy is just full of himself. When he is not lecturing us about Economics, he will be writing a book on capitalism that will be used as a bible for his cadres. He thinks he and only he knows what that country needs. In the mean time, we are ranked as one of the poorest, if not the poorest, countries in the world.

The above anon the one who said

"Meles has built 20 New Universities in Ethiopia within the last three.. something years. While you were damn busy distributing lies and hatred!!!"

Do you mean in Tigray region? As far as we know the meles government is known for begging, stealing public fund, corruption, killing innocent prtotesters and making in millions youths unemployed hopless and aids victims. I know Meles and Tplfites aparthied Govn has made few tigrean and their clicks from other regions millioners while others suffered and live in misery. Also, the above anon said "do your polishing and mcdonald dishwashing!" about the diaspora. You know the diaspora population at least they live from their decent hard worked income not living as Weyannes, Meles and Tplfites such as you meles Cadre PARASITES who lives from poor ethiopian tax payers by stealing public fund. SHAME on you parasite begger weyanne! Your final day is approaching! The truth will prvail! The majority Ethiopian will win!

Meles zenawi has the following degrees and accoumlated the following skills:
- masters degree in business corruption, in how to steal public fund and begg from the interantional community and stash it in foriegn banks
-Masters of science in economics
and how become the best parasite and locust and stealing from one region and build the other favorable tribal region
-honorary doctrate degree in Open university or how to divide ethnic openly and how to spread haterd among the same fellow country people
- honorary doctrate degree in political science to manuplate, steal vote and back stab any oppenents and how to use ethnic SS Agazi securtiy to crash any peaceful opponents and use multiple concentration camps to tortue and degrade any peacfull oppenents

WOW with all this good qualification for governance why we complain?

Anonymous said...

At least Meles’s ills are for all of us to see. I fail to understand his cadres just for money they are able to sell themselves and justify to their conscious some how this is right.
The reason they are writing is not because they do not know their master is wrong rather that is how they convince themselves that they were doing the right thing when they watched the murder of innocent civilians. Some may even fear that judgment day is here and they rather help and aid Meles to stay in power there by prolonging their own disastrous ending. You are trying to justify the unjustifiable. Bright men and women know right from wrong. They love the people they serve. They do not order them to be killed. It seems all his masters and doctorate degrees are unable to teach him the basics. Respect human life, respect Justice

I mean damn folks, Minlik is dead. Ok. Get a grip. There is a new sherif in town. Bortchame weregnas in D.C. are not going to do anything. Dear fellow Amaras, the 21st century is leaving you behind and your endless weregna culture. Get hold of your self and start civilizing yourselves with the norms of the 21st century. Just like the useless Weregna culture that is at the core of the Amara culture, you dare question the education prowess of the Prime Minister while you drive cabs and steal at parking lots, of course, while you engage in your favorite occupation--being WEREGNA. CAN'T DO SHIT BUT TALK ALL DAY LONG. IT IS TRULY SAD THAT SUCH AN UNPRODCUTIVE CULTURE IS MAINTAINED BY 30 MILLION ETHIOPIANS AND THE REST OF US HAVE TO SUBSIDIZE YOUR WEREGNA CULTURE.

Jijiga University, institutions in Debre Markos,Dire Dawa,
Semera (Afar),
Aksum, Tepi,
Nekemte (Oromia),
Kombolcha ,
Debre Birhan
Soddo University

when meles zenawi's term finishes in 2010, his government would have created 20 times more colleges than any other ethiopian leader in history!!

Wow! What the hell is this? Let’s kill the messenger day?

Guys:
Ethio-Zagol is telling us the way it is; and as such deserves our gratitude and thanks and not insult from dumb TPLF sycophants who cannot see beyond their own overfed bellies.

If we have to be thankful for Meles, let’s find plausible reasons like:

Thank God that even though Meles is systematically chasing away doctors abroad, at least he is not shutting the hospitals to cure the patients all by himself like Yahya A.J.J, the president of Gambia, with his own brand of natural herb mixtures. Read the details at : http://www.statehouse.gm/

To all TPLF agents: If you are dead set on deluding yourself into believing your own lies, then God be with you; but please leave forums like this alone and go to sites like Aiga forum, where you can lie to each other to your hearts content without challenge.

Thanks for the update EZ!

If one is ever curious why I am from a country that cannot feed itself, I just have to look at the comments above. It seems you love insults more than you love Ethiopia. Both camps that is. What good does it do insulting Amaras or Tigrayans, in terms of the interest of Ethiopia, well, let those above explain it. I think you are selfish. You are selfish because you can't even cotain your emotions for the sake of Ethiopia let alone sacrifice other difficult actions. Is Meles Zenawi an intellectual? Of course, his writings attest to this, international scholars and leaders attest to this. How much confirmation does one need. You see, recognizing his intelligence doesn't mean you agree with him. You could actually intelligently disagree with him. Why does that sound so easy?

The Anon who listed all unconfirmed universities list don't try to decieve us; as far as we know except in Tigray in the other regions only handfull universtiies are built. You khow in Tigray how many high schools, kindergardens are built? You know all the technolgies implemented in high schools including fast internet connection? You know the Meles government is uisng ethnic aparthied to enslave the majority ethiopian by minority Tigrian military might. But, this shows how weyannes, Meles and TPLFites are dump because this is not going to work not alone for minority ethiopian unrefined, selfish, hardheaded, arogant, cold hearted, savage and barabarian tigrean tribes even the south africa aparthied government once who used to enjoy most western powers support had given the power to the majority. So, weyannes, meles, tplfites if you like it or not majority wins!

The diaspora is actually living a good life. Not having to listen to the Ethio news about Weyanes undertakings when you switch your radio on is a blessing...But the only frustration of the diaspora is that it cannot do much about their own Ethiopia, like Ghaneans, Ugandans ect. Meles had his time, but he should have accepted his defeat and go. What is 20 Universities for a country with 70 million ppl, we should have at least 40. It is everyone's Ethiopia, not the Tigrans, the Amharas or the Oromos, but of the Sidamas, Hararis, Gurages etc. Everyone should be involved in nation building from the shoe shine man to the bureaucrat. Why should a handfull of uneducated political conartist decide who should take care of me when I ma sick...

The TPLF gang harbours a contempt for all but the peasantry. The peasantry is not a threat and is also a supplier of the much needed votes every five years. TPLF has never forgiven the urbanites, the proffessionals, the youth, the students and everybody else that it thought went along with Derg and condemned its so called libration struggle.

TPLF leaders also suffer from a self inflicted inferiority complex. Meles has unwittingly gone out of his way rediculing all Ethiopian professionals. This is not his first time, nor will it be the last.

As far as I am concerned, he is a lost cause. Irredeemable. He is simply asadagi yebedelew alele...

For those of you who think Meles is doing amazing things...we know who you are. You are all parasites whose life line is attached to his existence. I would have given it to you if you represented a cross-section of the society. But you are not.

This a reply to that dergist post.

stupid chauvanistic amhara cuderg says "What is 20 Universities for a country with 70 million ppl, we should have at least 40."

hey dumbass, we do have more than that colleges, but others didn't mention the private colleges like unity college. unlike your father that controlled every thing and blocked all foreign investing, we have something much better and we are growing.

hey, what about you donating some money so we can build more colleges?? eh??
you say small number of colleges for 70 million people, so why don't you start helping? your father left our country with nothing but dust and millions of tigrains with 2 seconds left to die and thousands of dead men on the street. your ignorance is clear with the high expectation you have of the poor state your father left.

lastly to the anonymous poster who said stop the hate speeches...hey what don't you tell that to the CUderg fanatics who insult us woyane supporters day and night. why don't you tell that to the chauvanists that made one ethnic group on top of all others?? we need equallity and democracy. we need tolerance and respecting the current eprdf government so that eprdf can leave office and hand power to the peaceful opposition parties with honor. but your chauvanist friends and the followers of mengistu think insulting and vilifying our meles and our leaders is the democratic way.
so, tell your friends to stop the hate first. don't accuse others while you know yourself that your KIL,CUdergs and gangs are the cause of all hate and intolerance.

think and reason, stop the hate and insults..tigrians are tired of this shit too!! why don't you stop it?? grow up and help your country. otherwise go back to driving your taxi

The core of the issue is that Ethiopia is not able to train and retain its medical doctors. Ethiopia is not able to train enough people because of lack of government support and over control(only party cohorts are given leahership positions in the academia). Ethiopia is not able to retain its doctors because the DRs can make more money overseas so they go. Ethiopia (big assumption based on world bank data) cannot pay its doctors global rates because the country is too poor. Furthermore, most of the diseases that affect the country side (water borne diseases and hygiene related diseases) can be dealt with trained practioners and not necessarily medical doctors. I dislike the prime minister but that doesn't make the problem of lack of doctors disappear. Therefore, the option presented by the prime minister is not totally outlandish. And by the way this option is being tried in Nigeria. So the PM is not as imaginative or creative (forget your exact word) as you say he is. But he reads like a mother winner. Some of the commentors on this blog should do the same.

Ownership Concentration

The increased role of the private sector in the Ethiopian economy
outside the agriculture sector is largely due to two groups of actors, the
MIDROC-group, owned by the Ethio-Saudi businessman Sheik
Mohammad Hussein Al-Amoudi, and the TPLF-owned Endowment Fund
for the Rehabilitation of Tigray, the EFFORT-group.
Sheik Al-Amoudi’s business activities include agricultural,
Even though Sheik Mohammad Hussein Al-Amoudi’s MIDROCgroup’s
business activities are widespread and increasing, this group has not
created a debate and a criticism that can compete with the debate about and
the criticism of the other non-government business group, the EFFORTgroup.
As is clear from its name, this group has both its objective and its
activities largely directed towards the Tigray region. Like the MIDROCgroup,
the EFFORT-group operates in more or less all business sectors.
The EFFORT-group has organised itself along the following businesssector
lines:
– Agriculture and agro-processing
– Construction and engineering
– Manufacturing
– Mining
– Services, including banking (Wegagan) and transports (TESCO)
As noted above, the EFFORT-group has its basis in the Tigray People’s
Liberation Front (TPLF) even though it is formally an independent
share company. From the point of view of efficient competition, as
indicated by the experience from the transport sector and revealed in the
surveys about the business climate mentioned above, the close relation
between TPLF and the present Ethiopian government easily creates
doubts about the equal treatment of EFFORT-companies and other
non-party-related private companies. As there is no efficient and working
commercial legislation, these doubts, well founded or not, easily create
problems concerning the government’s legitimacy and the credibility of
its private sector policies

Ethiopia under one family ruling party

Here is TPLF'S criminal family who controls Ethiopian national assets and all levels of power

1.President Melse Zenawi - TPLF leader and Ethiopian Prime Minister

2.Sebhat Nega - TPLF politburo and President Meles Zenawi's advisor

5.Aberash Nega (Sebhat Negas's sister) - run for Addis Abeba city council in May election (with her two cousins) but not elected.

6.Two daughters of Sebhat Nega's mother are from Eritrea like Meles Zenawi's Mother

11.Mulugeta Alemseged, who is Meles Zenawi's nearest family member - Meles zenawi's security chief and personal body guard

The issue is who controld Ethiopian Political, Justice, and Economic sector?

Ans: TPLF!

TPLF is guided by greed. They are in the business of destroying Ethiopia, so she will not have the capacity to ever become a genuine country. They are creating a dead society called Tegrea at the expense of all Ethiopians and Ethiopia's future.

Look, to this day Tegreas do not pay tax, under the title "Tagay tax aykeflim" (Freedomfighter don't pay tax). They also use public transportation to import and export their goods. The rest of Ethiopians pay thru the nose, TPLF don't pay a dime they are only sitting there to colect the money Ethiopia give birth to.

That is the main issue here, Meles would never give up his post and the Ethiopioan people have to take it away from his hand by force!

Black Lion Hospital

“There are things which much cause you to lose your reason, or you have none to lose”

I recently visited the pediatric casualty ward of Black Lion Hospital. The images I encountered there will remain with me forever.

Despite being one of the largest hospitals in the country, conditions are absolutely horrifying; the peeling white and yellow paint provides little contrast from the grey and dirty concrete floors and corridors marked by puddles of urine, vomit and other unidentifiable fluids. There are no fans in sight, and the foul stench of body odor, urine and disease is staggering. Though there seemed a minimum of 14 to a room, I saw no curtains or masks to divide those with malaria, HIV or dysentry from those with acute respiratory infections or other contagious diseases.

Where there are cribs they are, for the most part, in varying stages of unacceptable disrepair—the matresses are stained and torn and the rusted rails most often no longer close. The rest of the infants and young children are forced to lie wherever there is room (most without blankets) on dirty wooden benches or on the floor on makeshift cardboard mats. I saw three infants lying perilously on a surface resembling the stainless steel trays used in the West for holding the sterile equipment of surgeons. Family members who are unable to afford accomadation within the city have no choice but to sleep on the floor beneath or beside their dying young. The presence of doctors, nurses and interns are scarce—one anxious father reported that he had not seen his child’s doctor in over seven days. A mother begged me for water to give to her dying child, as another struggled desperately to give her newborn child medicine from a glass, due to the apparent absence of baby bottles or eye droppers in the ward. I saw a ‘cast’ made of duct tape, cardboard and a plastic bag worn by a tiny patient who lay wimpering on the floor with an IV attached to his head. I was told that in this hospital, infants suffering from a specific liver condition are placed directly underneath 100-watt bulbs, apparently for some kind of improvised treatment—an incredibly painful and dangerous procedure which on its own can cause blindness and severe burns.

Before leaving, I spoke briefly with a foreign intern who explained with a defeated sigh that every day they was forced to carry out medical procedures for which they were unqualified, because there is “simply nowhere to turn for help”.

Hope seemed, for the most part, absent from this ward; I was told most children would not live to see e following week.

As is clear from its name, this group has both its objective and its activities largely directed towards the Tigray region. Like the MIDROCgroup, the EFFORT-group operates in more or less all business sectors.

The EFFORT-group has organised it-self along the following business sector lines:

– Agriculture and agro-processing
– Construction and engineering
– Manufacturing
– Mining
– Services, including banking (Wegagan) and transports (TESCO)

As noted above, the EFFORT-group has its basis in the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) even though it is formally an independent share company. From the point of view of efficient competition, as indicated by the experience from the transport sector and revealed in the
surveys about the business climate mentioned above, the close relation
between TPLF and the present Ethiopian government easily creates doubts about the equal treatment of EFFORT-companies and other non-party-related private companies. As there is no efficient and working commercial legislation, these doubts, well founded or not, easily create
problems concerning the government's legitimacy and the credibility of its private sector policies

Hitler also said, “then we can live without science”, when he heard that most Jews scientist have started leaving Germany during the Second World War. We know what happened next. Nothing could keep the competitive since then let alone lead the world, in science and technology.
BTW the Woyanes go outside the country for treatment, why should they worry, if Ethiopians have Drs or not?.

Sony:

You are right! Why should Woyanie officials worry about the health care of Ethiopians? Every time Meles has his epilepsy seizure, he is flown to London or Israel within minutes, every time Bereket has his stroke he is in Israel in a jiffy, every time Samora's HIV is acting up, he is in a hospital in Boston, even when the figurehead Girma Woldeyes is sick, he is flown to Saudi for treatment.

When the average Ethiopians is sick, he doesn't need a doctor, no sire, a health officer will do! If this is not a double standard of the first water, I don't know what is.

Not only the Docs leaving. Here is the sign of a dying regiom:

More Ethiopian diplomats defect

Indian Ocean Newsletter N° 1208 17/02/2007
More Ethiopian diplomats have defected, bringing the total that has decided to leave the diplomatic service to seventy three. The latest to ditch the government of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and ask for political asylum in the United States is Ambassador Tayework Tilahun, who was his country’s consular attaché in Kuwait. Recently a staff member of the Ethiopian embassy in Ottawa (Canada), Dereje Ejigu, decided to do likewise. Several employees of embassies in London, Geneva, Stockholm and Paris, have defected the last few

Above anon:

We don't need ambassadors; what we need is a bunch of out-of-favor ministers echoing our policy.

Got it!

And I would like to know if His excellecy PM Meles would let his family or himself to be treated by the health officers....or you guys are more equal than others!!!!

Meles' and families physician is a German born doctor that looks after TPLF core members and their families. The doctor has two nurses working for him and one pediatric on call. That is Ethiopian health care.

I read an interesting article on addiswatch.blogspot.com about the healthcare in Ethiopia. Please check it.

Oh Yes the TLF group do not like Docs. Now in the country there are 5 new medical fuculties. But non of them are acredited. Remember a sea horse is not a horse. This are not real universties. They are less than Europian Barber schools. After 2 years many people will die from misdiagnosis and medical errors

Way enie

It is sad to see what kind of discourse is taking place in this blog. What is being achieved by demonizing the Prime Minister of Ethiopia? Do you really believe any amount of name calling will create better democracy? Should you not rather formulate your thoughts and beliefs in a rational manner which may or may not be accepted by the majority than just wallowing in bad language and ill wishing each other? I think it has become a unique trait of many in diaspora to vehemently and illogically accuse members of the Ethiopian government like no other Africans in diaspora. One clearly noticeable failure is the remittances from diaspora compared to that of other African countries of much smaller population. Believe it or not, it is only (estimated) 400 million US$. What a shame.
