Government Blocks Bloggers
Over the last two days, all blogspots blogs including http://www.seminawork.blogspot.com/ have been blocked in Ethiopia. Those who seek political quips fron weichegud or intelligent analysis form other bloggers can't access the sites via the telecom servers. In addition, the government has blocked Ethiopian Review, cyber ethiopia, quatero and Free our leaders websites. My sources told me this is done by tel. with the advise and help of the chinese. This blog can't be accessed in Ethiopia so the following advise may not reach its intended readers. Other websites like Ethiomedia who hasn't yet been blocked should carry the message to Ethiopian readers.
Readers can use an open proxy like this which allow to circumvent the blocks. Readers should click on http://securebar.secure-tunnel.com/cgi-bin/nph-freebar.cgi/110110A and enter the address that is blocked in the displayed box. Using the proxy we can access our beloved blogs and websites eventhough the government has censored them.

Dear aninymous #2

The idea is free flow of information please lets trust the Ethiopian people to judge what is okay and what is not, and not anyone else. Freedom is choice, I personally do not care that much for ER but I have no right to say that it should not be out in cyberspace. We would not be better than Melese and his cohorts if we only want to hear what we like. Think about it!

Hi Ethio Zagol,

I just came from Addis. I am now in Torpnto. I know how is the situation there. I also know the guys who does this in Tele including the complex full "tesfaye biru" the ceo who is now the star to block SMS and now blogs and selected websites. It is a pity to see tesfaye be part of this stupid scam considering his profesional background. I just want to pass my message to Tesfaye, that he should stop servicing woyane in this way or he will pay the price when the D day comes.

Cheers

This is to afriend above,

Ato Samuel assefa is a stupid drunk bastard who roam Addis city in the evening with endrias and other cronies to fill their guts and chase our sisters. His wife is a best friend of meles zenaw's wife, where she spend most of the time taking the first lady to shoping, hair saloon, and other places. These are Meles obsssed families who operates at different levels in Addis Ababa. His wife sister is the owner of black ross bar, his wife brother is the owner of makush resturant named after Dr. samuel's daughter a best frind of Meles's daghter. All these are woyane's spies and beggars who will soon face the Ethiopian people

mehedeya.blogspot.com must be blocked because it is a racist blog and does not serve the interest of the struggle in anyway.

Ethio-Zagol,

Can you please email Ato Abreha as soon as possible to do three things:

1) Provide a link on Ethiomedia to the open proxy on their website, at a permanent spot that doesn't disappear after a few days,

2) Provide a list of the blocked websites, not through a link but by printing the full path, e.g. www.weichegud.blogspot.com .

3) Provide 'guidelines for dummies' as to how to use the proxy, so that the less computer savvy in Addis don't get intimidated by the new technology and give up.

Please do so quickly! Ethiomedia itself might soon get blocked. Please also ask others (e.g. ethioforum.org, etc. etc.) to do the same thing.

I know you are in Ethiopia and hence this may be hard to do, but we should undertake a *concerted, vigourous, aggressive* media campaign in the West showing how Ethiopia is in the process of censoring the entire internet, after having shut down all local press.

Guys,

What they apparently did is block "*.blogspot.com" which means you block every blog spot hosted on blogspot.com. This means when you block "a.blogspot.com", you also block "b.blogspot.com,c.blogspot.com, and so on..". So EVERYONE, not just Ethiopian blogs, have been blocked.

Having said this, I feel most of us are reading this whole thing wrong. My theory is there is little for the government to gain by blocking access to blogs to Ethiopia. Instead, their main objective in blocking the blogspot.com web service is stop communication FROM Ethiopia to the rest of the world, not vise versa.

One example is this very blog (EthioZago). You can imagine how much headache it is causing them to see information distributed to world in a matter of seconds.

The good thing is as long as they don’t block yahoo or hotmail (which they will never do), blogspot already has a way to submit blog entries via email.

Ethio-Zagol,

Since blogspot.com is blocked, I know Ethiopians who could mirror your blog on another website. If your are interested contact me at abdisaaga1@yahoo.com.

Meles is not getting enough sleep waiting for what I am writing on my blog,lol...That is why he is falling on parliament floor. He will go to his grave thinking that he is diagnosed with the headache "geja".

The sad part is they can block even the secure proxy that you are talking about.

The usual complainers. What the heck is this? "yenate kemese telefegne"?

I am really annoyed that the blocking of websites and blogs isn\'t getting the attention it deserves. this is another assault on freedom of speech. This is what viki Huddlestone calls \"Democracy in Progress.\"

Freedom like life always find a way out! Why are there so many anonymous comments? What are we afraid of? A handful of bad people? In the end, it is always down to a few bad people that create a climate of fear. I am right, you are dead! Life is all there is.
