Breaking news:Court finds kinijit leaders guilty

The court in charge of the kinijit trials today decided that all of the kinijit leaders accused of outrage against the constitutional order are guilty as charged. The defendants include the chairperson of the party, Ato Hailu Shawel and the mayor of Addis Ababa, Brehanu Nega. According to Ethiopian law, the crimes the court found them guilty of committing entail death penalty or at least 25 years imprisonment.
The next step, according to the law, is sentencing.

For those (above posting) who are talking about the law, There is no rule of law in Ethiopia. It all made and interpreted as wished by Meles and TPLF. If there was a rule of law, it should have been those who have killed the innocent that should have been in jail. If it was your brother or sister who was killed or jailed, you would have said a different thing. Deep inside you all know the truth of what is going on in Ethiopia. But of course, money, greed of false ethnic pride has overshadowed your little brain.

Woyane thinks by finding Hailu et al guilt of crimes it can divert attention from the current on going split (might even be bigger than the one between the Palace Clique and Siye et al)between the two families ruling Ethiopia

Why are we so cruel? I do not believe CUD ever planned revenge but they were planning to work together with everyone, including EPRDF. Still now, the alliance shows an open and clear, open handed invitation for the ruling party. I thought we learned from South Africa - when Mandela assigned the aparthied president as his VP. And this is in the minds of the majority of Ethiopians, icluding the CUD leaders.
Hate and Revenge is very primitive and does not help anyone. I believe EPRDF will be better-of to be positive and reconcile, by not focusing on the past but encouraging every one to move forward together. The ruling party has the chance and the capacity to do this.
Please do not forget that all Ethiopians at this moment know what is going on in the courts - The courts never been free during this administration and never will be unless we change the course. So, whatever is sentenced, everyone knows it comes from the palace.
EPRDF had a huge place in the citizen's mind when it let opposition leaders to run for election before it destroyed all of it soon after the election. I think they can still do it. Because everything is changing everyday and so can EPRDF. EPRDF can change course, leave the baseless revenge, be positive and work with everyone peacefully.
This will help everyone, the people, EPRDF and its followers.
However, if the ruling party chooses this wrong way, the result will be a lose-lose while the former could be and win-win.
Just one question, please remind me if CUD ever declared any armed or any non-peaceful struggle. I remember the people being opposing by staying home from work and horning their cars. Is this non peaceful struggle?

I believe this verdict is a very bad to our beloved country. If EPRDF has a single drop of love left for the people it claims to represent (the Tigray people whom it is trying to isolate from the rest of us) let alone the whole of our unfortunate nation, it will re-examine this dreadful finding. It leaves bad taste in the mouth. The country needs all educated people it could get; it cannot afford to lose any more. The losses of the last three decades have done enough damage. Some of us happen to think that it is already a loss too many it is unrecoverable. Let us not go there again! We should be envious of our resources wasted in foreign lands. We should get angry at ourselves, let alone destroying and rotting what we have in hand. I wonder how killing or withdrawing able people contribute to the well being of a nation or assist independence and self-reliance. For people like me who are naive enough to believe reconciliation is the only way to salvation, this verdict come as a horror! In the end it will bring about division and carnage. The EPRDF leadership will be ill-advised to let this reckless verdict to stand. It will be remembered as a party that led a nation into nothingness and a county into annihilation. God help us! When is the fortune of my dear country changing? My heart is retching as I see her limping towards her death, nevertheless my optimistic nature is holding on to a slim hope that, that there is a glint of goodness somewhere in human nature hence, our governors in Addis would have a last minute change of heart, for the sake of their legacy, if not for the good of their children and their children's children. Before I finish though, allow me to express my disappointment at some of the contributors to this forum. Where did you learn these depraved, sickening and callous expressions? Go to the width and breadth of the country I doubt it if you come across one true Ethiopian who rejoices at his enemy’s misfortune, let alone at his fellow countryman’s despair. It is my sincere belief that considering the strain EPRDF is under, the guilty veredict will not transpire to, at least, the death penality.

Rather, with the millinium celebrations coming up, well into this summer, another well rehersed drama will unfold.

EPRDF certainly will expect the opposition, angered by the guilty veredict, to escalate the harsh critisizms and rhetoric.

So if one puts himself in the EPRDF's shoes, Create a tension, Resolve it, and the post-tension apathy will mean less 'noise' from the opposition during the millenium celebrations.

How can EPRDF resolve this tesion created by the guilty veredict? Set some of the prisoners free and give less punishment to others than anticipated. That surely will take some wind off the opposition.

I suggest the opposition takes this into consideration when formulating its responses.

This is one of the oldest tricks in Machiavellian book.

Melese is playing his old trick. He is trying to look tough and invincible in fighting his political enemies. He clearly knows that the whole world and the Ethiopian people at large clearly understand that the charges were bogus and the judiciary system is not expected to pass any verdict without his approval. At the same time, he is trying to prove to the opposition, the international community and the Ethiopian people that he can be as brutal as he could and get away with it without any casualty or loosing his power. This attitude was known and expected by many and even the by political pundits in US and EU . Melese at this time is enjoying his unchallenged dictatorial rule and punishing any one standing on his way with evil intent and spirit. He is clearly confident that the bush administration is held by its horn and will not even try a slap on the wrist on him. He definitely thinks that he has figured out how to handle the Americans and the international community. Seemingly, he thinks that he is at a point where he can snap his finger and the Bush administration, EU, China, or Japan will be rushing to serve him at his requests. The crude and irresponsible altitude of the West has been instrumental in incubating such a tendency in him. After the end of the Cold War, they have been creating and sustaining such dictatorial rules in Africa in general and particularly in Ethiopia and Eritrea. With such attitude of the international communities, it is obvious that the long term interest of the West and the Ethiopian people cannot be meet for a mutual benefit and a period of peace and prosperity in the horn of Africa will remain, only a dream.

I am not sure what the heck is going on in my country, but I have a feeling that the verdict is not serious. It is done in such a sloppy way that you can tell that the verdisct is not serious. I have a feeling they will be released for Millennium Celebration. It is a form of deflection. They catch you and make you worried for a while and when you get stressed out they release you as if they did you a favor. I think they along with many serious criminals will be released for Millennium as a form of forgiveness.

Remember Menge Hailemariam used to do the same, when it was 10th universsary many criminals and suspected people who were jailed since the red-terror campaign were released on that day. It is called sofetening the heart of the people and deflecting attention from other serious cases.

TPLF thinks we are silly bunch, they capture our leaders for no apparent reason and incarcerate them for nearly two years and rellease them during the celebration so we can be happy and danddy with TPLF at the helm of power. The killings of our youth was done out of fear, that since they are minority they have to use brute force to shock and bring the rioting crowd to submission. Then follow with horrifying killings to add fear on the already tender heart. It seems their tactic has worked well. The streets are quieter and everyone is scared of TEGEREANS, now when you see a TEGEREEAN you cross the street to the other side, because they succeeded planting the seed of fear with brute force. This tactic was very well used during the NAZI era, the FASCISTS pick people ranndomly and shoot them, this creates a shock wave and terror to the other inmates. TPLF is doing the same, they they will eventually fall, but as long as they are there they will continue to fill their sack and matress as well as pillows with US DOLLAR. Now in the Ethiopian economy TEGREANS are enjoying a 50% growth while the rest of Real-Ethiopians are suffering. Some are unable to buy food using their salary. WHAT A WORK OF ART, TPLF is the best strategists the region has ever seen.

What is to be done now? This should be what we all ask. We need a good leader that will free us from these thugs that bleed us. One thing to remember is that they came from Tigray with lots of hate, poverty and inferiority complex. That by itself is a deadly combination. They came with lots and lots of lice on their heads which they slowly shaded through the past 16 years and seen the benefit of looting. They will never willingly become civil and share any power specially as the world seems to work with them. So what is left for Ethiopians is to come up a good plan that will threaten their existance. For example if non Tigrean Ethiopians try to marginalize those TPLF thugs who live next door /it needs a good decipline/ till they arm themselves and start acting on these barbarians. Boycotting their businesses and excluding from any social eventswould also be simple tasks that any TPLF hater can do to help the cause.

Folks, it does no good to turn against each other or even waste time responding to ignorant comments. Despite your affiliation or support, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the formula used to prosecute these people DOES NOT ADD UP. WE can't let the ETH govt pass such absurd ruling with such evidence to prosecute individuals- let alone individuals of such caliber. Well, I agree with some of you. I THINK IT IS TIME TO DO SOMETHING. But I don’t understand some of the predictors. Meles will not do that or this. He is telling you with no uncertain terms that he will do any thing in his power to stay in power and loot the country to the benefit of only a few. (And all this is about looting)

So instead of predicting why not listen to him and do what needs to be done. I think 77milion people should be able to do something about a few group of people that are treating us with indignity. I think Meles and company are laughing there hearts out while the rest of us bleed to death.

AS THEY SAY ONCE YOU MAKE A DECISION THE UNIVERSE WILL MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. I don’t know if you have forgotten but GOD IS WITH US.

So for us to have a better future than we ever had, for us to be considered human, why don’t we do something about our tormenters? We can take very simple steps, like not work till Meles STEPS DOWN. I am not asking just for the release of the prisoners, I am telling you all that WE CAN get ride of this murderer.

Our worries about people being poor and not having anything to eat and therefore not having power over our tormenters is simply not true and shows lack of faith. The international community and any concerned individual will do something about it. There is simply no way that people will just die. OUR CONVICTION AND OUR WILLINGNESS TO MAKE CHANGE in our country is what we need. GOD WILL PROVIDE THE REST.

Remember Meles has just a small group with him and he is able to put the entire country (77m people) under his control because he is willing and committed. There is no way he has this kind of power over all of us. The rest of us are simply not willing to do anything. And willingness has nothing to do with many being killed. IF THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WAY. We can nail this murderer in no time, if we want to. WE JUST HAVE TO THINK HARD.

We the young Ethiopians will intensify our struggle against the terrorist Meles! Just watch, the next couple of weeks will bring some rapid changes in Ethiopia. The verdict only shows the desparation of Meles and his minority palace thugs.

TPLF will be history very soon, trust me....this is from a source deep inside EPRDF. The differences of opinion within EPRDF with respect to the CUD leaders are huge to say the least.
