"No negotiation with Kaliti prisoners" - Meles

PM says prisoners will be sentenced

Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi says there has been no negotiation with the imprisoned CUD leaders. "Negotiation can only be made between two free persons. There can be no negotiation between an organ which has imprisoned the CUD members because they broke the law, and the prisoners on the respect for the rule of law, " Meles Zenawi said in Parliament today.
The Prime Minister was adamant that the issue of clemency can't be discussed in parliament before the court delivers its sentence on the prisoners as it affects the decision of the court.

EZ's view:
From Meles' statement, there is no possibility that the prisoners will be released before the sentencing which will either be a rigorous imprisonment or death. Last week, I wrote that the prisoners would be released this week unless Meles, the serial liar, backed down. He has done that again.

EZ,

This is a common response from him. He always denies throughout his life!!!!
I expect that he even may use their signature for his future bad action. What is Prof. Ephrem doing at the moment? Why he knows very much than going many steps?
Let God be with national hero CUD leaders!

During the invasion of Italy in Ethiopia , our Grand Fathers and Grand Mothers etc... with the premitive knowledge using their unbreakable unity and spirit had managed to run Musolini and his well equiped army out of their mother land. Now true Ethiopian need to follow their determination and spirit to get the job done and bring back diginity and love and unity to the one and only one Ethiopia.

We are being ruled not goverened.

Stand up and do what you can individually.

Then we can Free our leaders.

Dear Ethio-Zagol

I think the Face-Saving operation has failed - No guilty confession from kaliti. That is why he is denying the existence of negotiation between him and our leaders.

The cadrew Ben’s ethiopiafirst.com, Aigaforum and the Reporter were shamelessly trying hard to save Zenawi’s ugly face by deliberately disseminating unsubstantiated rumours and by spinning their contra factual fantasies even though the dictator has no face to save. This midget is a dictator, a personification of evil, a Diabilos who is responsible for extinguishing tens of thousands of Ethiopian lives and the horrendous crimes he committed against our people all over Ethiopia are well known and documented.

One way or another, our leaders will walk free. Sure!!!

Kinijit shall prevail!!!!

Gentlemen,

This is a guy who accused them of attempting to dismantle a constitutional order. How do you expect him to publicly admit that he is bypassing the Court to stop the trial and release individuals who are convicted?

For him to remain consistent, he will have to wait for the sentence,he may pressure the prosecutor to request the minimum sentence, or pressure the court to use its discretion in the criminal code and impose lenient sentence. After that, he can use his executive power to pardon them or commute their sentence (of course through the president).

That is the only way. There is no plea bargain (which we do not have under the Ethiopian legal system), nor can the prosecutor drop a case at this stage.

It would be a contradiction in terms to accuse people of dismantling the constitution, and then doing the same by subverting the judicial process,no matter how flawed or unfair the procedure has been.

Just have patience! They will be out, but procedures have to be complied with to save the tyrant's face, and the rubber stamp court!

The Ethiopian Government and the US are disrespecting us Ethiopians. Let us stand up and show the world what we can do to our freedom. It is not only the Kinijit liders who are in prison, but We all the proud Ethiopians. I have never seen such embarassment in my life. I am ready to sacrifice my life for my freedom.

Our leaders do not deserve this. Please let us do something about it. Where is our JEGNENET we have been told about in our whole life? Where is our ATINKUN BAYNET we grew up listening to? We are the prisoners and the slave of our own fear. Let us stand up like Palestinians and Iraqis. Where ever we are, we can fight this shamelessness. Please, Pleas, please let us not only talk and sleep. Let us do something and we will prevail.

Ethiopians must do guide line.

for starters do not go to Ethiopia for the milinium.

Avoid Commercial transactions with countries that helps the current regime.
I am talking about countries that are training their current military; administration ; police and propaganda and Investment in the current set up system.

Avoid product from unless necessary countries like

1. China (big investor and desroy of our infrastracture.)
2. German ( supports police federal education and equipment.

Do your home work and see if you can start from were ever you are
to hurt their pocket.

I have a message for all Weyanne supporters. We Ethiopians are like one family member and Mr. Zenawi is the bad boy of the family who humiliates everyone in the family. I see you like a child who is clapping when your father hits your mother. Let us grow up and tell the bad boy of the family that there is a good way of being human and most of all a leader of a poor but hopeful people.

Meles & his company are not born to solve differences in civilised manner. The only communication method they understand comes through the use of force. The world has learnt all about their true nature, Thanks to the Ethiopan people who casted their votes & The great CUD leaders who casted their lives.

It loosk you have a logic because he cannot admit in parliment that he can order the court. This is expected, but as EZ puts it he is a serial breaker of negoatiations and takes for his advantage.
Whether he likes it or not they will be realsed, but how much they will be active in the politics remains to be seen. The very diaspora Kinjit which was saying dont go to the Parliment, is completely divided and childish act. Sometimes it is for the good of Ethiopia that Kinjit was not in power. They even cannot negotiate the rescue their true leaders. How could they have solved the Ethiopian problem.
The Bottom line is they will be relased after face saving of Zenawi.

Well, that is honestly the true personality of 'our' stupid leader Meles Zenawi. If we were expecting clemency from him or the front he runs (EPRDF), then this posting of EZ proves us wrong. Meles is an arrogant dictator who would rather die for his power and hegemony than let it go for the interest of the majority.

Sooner or later, our leaders will be free not because of Meles'good will, but because of our determination to stand by the true Ethiopians languishing in Kaliti. No matter how long the night, the day will come. Let's stop thinking and acting as cowards and start acting as brave Ethiopians. Is it so difficult to at least to stay away (ignore) from EPRDF and its siblings? Let's marginalize them again. Taking a cup of coffee with a betrayer is tantamount to betraying.

Please, God don't kill any of our leaders in jail, no matter how old they are. They should come out of that hell and save Ethiopia.

Girma.

Should we understand it to mean they still have to go through the JULY 9, 2007 (July 2,1999 eth.cal.) court appearance?... Well, sentencing?...but yet the mediation has taken place between the 38/39 prisoners of conscience and the PM?. IS THERE A PART THAT IS MISSING?. The MEDIATION may not have released any OFFICIAL DOCUMENT, but it is HALF OFFICIAL as reported by different sources. The REGIME SPOKES PEOPLE have continued to DENY any negotiation, and that is the way they play their cards. Does it mean MEDIATION could be REVERSED after they are made to admit “ COMMITTED MISTAKES”?.

Dear EZ readers,
Meles has given us a headache to worry about so that we will forget the cancer that may finish us. The release of CUD leaders is just a tiny step towards independence. Our fight for Democracy, Unity and Freedom in Ethiopia will continue to liberate the whole nation from Meles & His Co. We shall intensify our struggle by all means until one man is in jail for political reasons, until all our human rights are respected, until poverty and parasites are eradicated from our nation. We should bear in mind that the release of CUD leaders is just the beginning of the END. The final goal is yet miles away. We shall not allow the dictator to dictate us when we will be free. We shall liberate ourselves and our leaders and all Ethiopians from Woyane's enslavement NOW.

You seems to have lost all your self confidence so that GOD has to look after your needs. Do not forget that GOD help those who help themselves. A good lesson can be learnt from King Menilik who had his Tabot with his side while taking his arms to fight back the Italian invaders. Had he left for God to make miracles and wait for the Italians to takeover Ethiopia, you would n't have been here.
I appreciate your strong believe in God but you are empowered to make decisions to shape your life and stand for the justice and truth, probably by GOD.

Surprise Surprise. Meles never stops to amaze me. We are expecting the CUD relase but he is talking about the possibility of invading Eritrea. A diversion tactic not to release them or what?

Please do not buy " We are ready to defend Eritrea's invasion" crap. There is nothing new here. Melles always says that. I don't know why the international media is reporting this as something new. The fact is that the regime seems to backtrack from the earlier negotiation with jailed kinijit leaders. They are trying to divert our attention from our leaders. This is called a "diversion tactic" from the main issue. After what we heard from the God father of the Tplf "Aboy Sebhat Nega", nobody should be fooled by Tplf's rehtoric on Eritrea. That is thier usual tactic to divert our attention from the burning issues.

Anonymous said...

When we are talking about our jailed leaders, Melles talks about Eritrea. We shouldn't be trapped by Tplf propoganda. What's new on Melles Zenawi's rehtoric towards Eritrea? NOTHING NEW. Lets focus on our leaders. Melles Zenawi broke his promise again.

Anonymous said...

This is to divert attention from the internal problem. There is nothing new here. Melles always says if Eritrea attacks, we are ready to defend ourselves. Why is the international media reporting this as something new? The reason is that the regime in Addis is trying to back-track from the reported negotiation with jailed CUD leaders. Melles Zenawi is a serial deal breaker, and now he seems to do what he usually does, breaking the deal with the jailed leaders. The regime is cornered and wants to deflect attention. Nobody should buy this crap. The regime must release our leaders ASAP.

Selam Melese,

Please Melese do not play with words. Sometimes it too easy to appear too clever with words. Release the prisoners and you will be the first to benefit from civilized dialoged and opposition. You have to have a little bit of wisdom. It is 21st century and there is no place for one party system.

I do not support CUD and I do not think CUD will also survive with in Ethiopia politics. The division between Kestedamena and AEUP is so deep and will take few years to sort out. By arresting these people you are helping them to unite. If these people were not arrested CUD would have broken into its constituent parts long time ago. There is no real or imaginary threat from CUD. Keeping them in prison is only shows a vindictive and cowardice nature. Don’t over do it. That is not a healthy thing. It is only cowards who are not forgiving… because they know that they could be beaten down if they lose the one opportunity they had in hand. Anyway, if you are reading you should release them immediately… you are embarrassing your own supporters by over doing it and taking a cowardice stand.

To Abebech:
Thank you for your comment and above all appreciate your self confidence from your point of view. To me, putting every thing in front of God doesn’t mean losing self confidence. I know very well that God and human being have their own share for every thing. We have to do first our share and leave the rest for God. May I ask you one question? Don’t you think that Ethiopians are doing their part for freedom and really democracy? Unfortunately all their efforts have been hijacked after each effort. You can start from 1974 revolution till now. Why we are not successful like other countries do? Is it because we haven’t done our part? Let me bring you to the after math of election-97. I am talking about the action to be taken here at home. All the peaceful demonstrations have been changed into violence, deaths and imprisonment. Do you think that any more demonstration in AA’s streets will bring a change? For sure it will be changed again to another circle of chaos. What else? Fighting in the jungle? Our experience tells us people coming into power by force will never give up their position peacefully. We can list lots of strategies but as to me none of them are as powerful and modern as reconciliation!! Emperor Minilik has had one country and one people and one aim. Don’t forget Ethio-Eritrean war. It was not a problem for Ethiopians to revert the so called aggression. Now the war is between us!! Our situation after election 97 is different. I had a great hope on the reconciliation. Still I do hope that God will help us to have a national reconciliation.
May God save our country, Amen.

I don't think so. Whether EPRDF approved or not Meles can change, modify or delete it, because he is EPRDF, he is PM, he is TPLF, he is Legese Zenawi, he is Melese Zenawi, ...etc. This man is leading a mafia style governance on Ethiopia. Remember Zenawi is attempting to hold the United States Congress hostage from not passing the HR2003. WHY? Was it EZ lying? Congress? or Zenawi?

In my view, this is what transpired: Meles has a negative, suspicious, deceitful and diabolic personality. He only knows the rule of the jungle. He thinks that a country should be ruled by bullying and terrorizing its citizens. So at times he watches what we say if it is of benefit to him. When the negotiations between our leaders in Kality and Meles were taking place, we made truthful remarks saying that we knew all along that their imprisonment was political and that the courts were following his orders to convict them. Now he realizes that his world - especially his friends the US and the Europeans - are watching the outcome and would also have the same take on the situation as we have. So he first sends the message out through his usual liar spokesman, Bereket Simon, saying that there have not been any negotiations between him and the political prisoners and then declares that they have to make a court appearance for sentencing. It is likely that the final outcome would be that Meles has 'magnanimously' pardoned them.

Anonymous said...

Meles may not be predictable, but his actions show that he is gradually, but surely, approaching the tipping point. It seems he makes things wittingly complicated to give observers the impression that he is genius or wise. To be honest, there is neither wisdom nor genius in him to find. Rather, he is seriously sick, and his sickness is eating his tiny brain up that he is heading to the abyss. His days are numbered and he is shivering, for he knows better than anybody else that he has the blood of thousands innocent citizens in his hands and he has been cornered both nationally and internationally. Let us hope that the transition would be without bloodshed. I have no doubt he is doomed to fail, though the struggle has to be intensified.

Anonymous said...

Is anyone really surprised by this? I've always expected Meles to try and pull a bait and switch with the deal but this comes as no surprise at all. The man cannot be trusted under any circumstances.

Once again those who have had an inflexible resolve for armed struggle as the only solution to our problem are not taken by surprise. The powers that are appers to be against any form of alliance between the opposition Shab, and A.F.D,because it serves not their interest. One explanation for the supposed realease fabrication news is the fact that ,we were making strids to build consenseus to go in the above direction. However,Melese working in colaboration with the powers that are, attempted to scatter our plan for the above goal.
See how he works with this powers,he has well placed informants ,and, advisors from Washington to Arat Kilo.He can plan his tricks and work along with this powers to effectively keep us in bind.We can not compete with Melese for influence from the same powers. He is the best choice they have at the moment:he is helplesly docile and loyal to them.
Let us cut loose our selves from this entanglement, and take the high road.Unite all of us for the commen cause, form alliance with Shabia, nurture the existing relationship with A.F.D.Let us journy in this path:trust in God,build our self confidence ,and stay the course unwaveringly no matter what is dangled before us by this powers.Only when we are anchored with such inflexible resolve ,and attitude we can expect to win over the enemies:let us not loose heart, only armed struggle is the way out. When we start to tread this path, then only will the powers that are will discuss matters in our terms. For now we need to undo the tie;we have with them,We can not behave like a lbaratory rat that is at the mercy of the experimenter.we we should not permit this powers to manipulate evey aspect of our lives as in the above:We need to let them go and depend on self reliance.
God bless the brave sons of Ethiopia!

Thank you Ethio-Zagol, for your insider information and stellar personal analysis; you will be glad to know that for most Ethiopians you are the main source of reliable info on Ethiopia.

I totally agree with Kuchiye’s assessment that Meles is a pathological liar and a deceitful human being hell bent on destroying Ethiopia and Ethiopians. Now that said, I really find it hard not to be angry and enraged at how he has been manipulating our emotions, specially the last couple of weeks. When I think of the blameless political prisoners and what their families must have been going through this back and forth negotiations, and how dashed their hopes must have been, just to be crushed with a mindless evil human being; I really truly feel like going out and strangling a Woyanie cadre or any Woyanie for that matter. How any breathing and thinking human being can serve evils like Meles and Mengistu is beyond my comprehension.

I really resent people like Tazabi for trying to use this forum as a fertile ground for poaching souls to their brand of Christianity or whatever their belief system is. They are busy these days proselytizing all over the Ethiopian forums and I have a feeling some might even be TPLF agents and I strongly resent that. They are telling us to handover our destiny and that of our country to the almighty, then just sit on our hands and enjoy the injustice, the persecution, the concentration camps, the killings and everything else; because it is the will of God. I would rather take Menelik’s approach, that is fill your heart with the love of God and confront your enemy with your armor and everything else you have. Thank you Abebech!

Now, I would like to vent my frustrations on the antics of Diaspora politics including that of Kinjit. I am really having a hard time to understand, why it is so difficult for those of us living in free societies, to come together for the SINGULAR PURPOSE of saving our people and country from the TPLF evils. I am also resentful of some individuals and groupings for using the sacrifices of the jailed CUD leaders as a stepping stone for their own political ambitions. I am also horrified at the thought of all of our alleged brave leaders of the Diaspora Kinjit, turning into bumpkins in front of our eyes, at high noon.

I hate to say this, but it is a blessing in disguise. We never wanted our leaders to sign the admission of guilt letter in the first place. They did that against our advice and they signed.

Signing of the "Admission of Guilt letter" helped Meles' litmus test. He realized now that they are sofetening up, Dr. Ephrem Isaac have them had by Meles. Now so he says no "deal" to a weakened group of people begging. Remember what happened, just before the Somalia invasion, he was about to give them their freedom and as soon as he suceeded in Somalia he changed his mind. The guy is like an AIDS virus, he changes instantly. He is the shrewedest leader in Africa, he changes his mind as many times as his mood swings. Soon he will have them sentenced of death penality and lengthy prison terms and then he will present them with "another letter" exonerating him completely and loading all the responsibility on the elected CUDP leadership. Since they have accepted partial responsibility, and they have a death sentence on their plates they will agree and with accepting full responsibility for the deaths of thousands of innocent Ethiopians killed and maimed pre-and-post-election rampage shooting.

Can you believe that Meles a leader of the poorest country on earth whose economy is dependent on donation, who also came to power by force of guns can dectate the US Congressmen who are elected representatives and get away? That is unheard of! His recent letter to Reps. Payne and Lantos was a testamony that a dictator supported by the whitehose can mis-behave and getaway. Sadam Hussien who mocked the US Congress got what was coming to him, deservingly so. How is it possible for Meles to mock and attempt to dictate American Congressmen and getaway scathes free? Sometimes, I cannot tell who holds the balance of power in the American Congress, even with opposition majority. I have always thought the American Senate is the highest authority in the land, I guess I am wrong.

What we need is to forget about the US Senate and fight fire-with-fire. Fire fighters do the same when a raging forest fire threatens the safety of a town or city, firefighters introduce a fire path guidance, which re-direct the path of the fire and systematically force the fire to eat itself. We can do the same with our country's political turmoil. We have to lead WOYANNIE into an abbys and force it to eat itself. We have to help the opposition military wings working in Ethiopian jungles, this peaceful struggle methond is not working in Ethiopia. The tyrant is vecious it does not know when to stop, even when the opponent is down. We have to help them financially and morally and if they need volunteer then we have to go and help them fight for our dear country. This is a serious issue, our humanity has been degraded to the point we cannot recover anytime soon.
