Bedru Adem Goes to Washington

Bedru Adem, the former MP who, in court of law, claimed to have relinquished his Kinijit membership long before the November 2005 protest which led to the killing and imprisonment of thousands of pro-democracy activists, flew to Washington yesterday to participate in tomorrow's meeting where Kinijit chaiman Eng. Hailu Shawel will have his first public appearance. Bedru who since his release from prison in July has been attacking the integrity and good name of many Kinijit leaders including Brehanu Nega and Birtukan Mideksa on EPRDF leaning newspapers here in Addis Ababa is expected to continue doing more of the same in tomorrow's meeting.

Truth should be told! He comes to tell us his part of the story! He will help us to unmask the woyane agents!

Anybody who is putting more fire on both sides is doing a diservice to the Ethiopian people. Bedru Adem seems to be another Ledetu. He is going to join his buddy weyane spy in disguise of opposition Merchaw Sinishaw whose mission is to divide the opposition in diaspora ala Ledetu style. Merchaw Sinishaw fooled many Ethiopians in Washington DC area for a long time by pretending to be patriotic when infact he is a weyane agent planted like Ledetu Ayalew. Merchaw Sinishaw is a weyane operative working 24/7 to deflect attention from weyane. His mission is to divide and confuse the opposition.

There you go again.
Hmmm…let us see…
If I were TPLF’s strategist what will I do to capitalize this moment….
Hmmmmm…
How to use this important juncture!
When CUD is in disarray… use people like Bedru to put more fuel on the
ongoing fire. No time like the upcoming meeting in DC….

LET THE TRUTH COME OUT

When we where suppose to discuss how to get read of the tribal and hated TPLF/Woyane from power we are
we are forced to wittness the following.

The the last one month we have seen drama after drama in Ethiopian opposition group Kinijit.

On one side the gang of five lead by Bretukan/Berhanu we do not know who realy is in charge touring the states. They are rasing big money and and reciving nice weel come.

On the other side we see the lone sick embattled Ing Hailu Shawel giving interviwe from hospitals and hotels and even his arrival was disrupted by independent group like Prof.Al-Mariam and Tamaghen.

Behind all these we see the long time trouble makers like Andargachew Tega,Berahnu Mewa and their mouth peace Elias Kefle of Ethiopian review. They have tried all they can to disrupt and spoil the name of Hailu shawel and Dr.Taye recnetly they are organizing a protest aganist the cahir man.

The above individulas where were preparing the ground for these show for a long time. They have refused mediation one after the other with shaleqa group.

We Ethiopians have no choice but but to find out the truth who is satnding for betterment of EThiopians. Who have vision for freedom of Ethiopans.Who brings true leadership for lasting peace justice, freedom and democracy for Ethiopian.

If the issue is money they have got what they want If the issue is power they can join TPLF/Woyane

What we want some body who will bring TPLF/Woyane the kills of Ethiopians to justice

You make your mind

It is a pity and shame on us that once again we are betrayed by the very people we believed that they would lead us to victory. Instead of becoming powerful instruments in the hands of Ethiopian people who chose to elect them and as a result suffered in the hands of tyranny, Eng. Hailu and his friends chose to destroy people’s hope. They are about to fulfill in few weeks from their comfort what EPRDF could not do to CUD through intimidation, harassment, imprisonment and killing over the last two years. It appears the leaders helped the struggle much better when they were locked up in kality. It is also good that they were released because we would not have a chance to understand their very personal character, which appears to be a dictator in the making. Would Eng. Hailu a lot different from the people in power were he had a chance to lead Ethiopia? Look how much he is demanding from his own colleagues. Are we in need of a leader who asks what his fellow people owe to him or what he owes to his people and colleagues? Look! It still remains true of us that we it is becoming much harder to contain our selfish emotions and interests than conquering a giant enemy. We tend to fight one of our own much earnestly and vigorously than fighting the real enemy. It is much clearer now than ever before that, we can be one against enemy but we are millions against each other. Read the internet! Listen to the Pal Talks! They are now unreservedly fueling up the conflict to spoil people’s struggle with a dedications exceeding their fight against Meles. They are defaming Birtukan and Birhanu much worse than what EPRDF-media. It is to their own disgrace if the Engineer and his colleagues chose differently but it is uncivil and indecency for us to publicly insult them. Shouldn’t the rule of law, which we seem to struggle for, be relevant to us even as we talk and write? It is ridiculous to pledge oneself to be an activisim for freedom and “rule of law” while trying to achieve the same lawlessly? The way Birtukan-group handled the issue so far is admirable to the extent they seem to be admitted to hospital considering Eng. Hailu’s unprecedented interviews and struggle to defame his own prison-fellows, undermine their activity and assert his absolute power. When his actions appear less fruitful, would Bediru do differently? Let us see! In conclusion, it seems we are doomed to choose to be children of a humiliated and failed nation not only by the deeds of our identified adversaries and historical fate but also by our own actions. We have to remember, in the past, our nation has been forced to head in regrettable directions not by chance or by choice of its people but by very few shortsighted citizens of our own and we are ready to get it again!

Hello Girra Yegebaw:

I can understand your perplexing situation in that that you're having a tough time trying to make sense of all these dizzying and confusing developments about Ethiopian politics.

As antidote to the situation you’re in right now I'd urge you not to believe almost anything about what, most of the time, Ethiopians say about themselves and their fellows until you get more than adequate evidence to back up what should be believed. I'd not say this to any group of people that I know of but then I say this when it comes to us, Ethiopians. Why I say that?

Ethiopians, generally speaking, rarely tell the truth about many things openly without being too guarded about what the truth is in reality; therefore, be extra cautious even when even the most saintly Ethiopian says this or that about himself/herself and esp., about others. This will relieve most of us from falling into gullibility for which we're paying too much price. This is about the widespread character problem in the Ethiopian society one can easily observe and take note of, without making a mistake about it, and if you’re armed with such a cautious attitude, esp. about political issues, you’d not believe much of what you have heard and hence there would be only a few things to cause such a concern about getting confused.

The sociology of suspicion in our society and lack of transparency that is ubiquitous in our society is equally prevalent and even worse in degree, among the politicians. I'd not exempt even the saintly seen CUD delegates who're touring the US and Europe from what I've just said. I'm not saying this because I've something suspicious and negative about these people. I make that point to make a point that these people would hardly reflect a drastically different and superior value to that we find all over in our society until it becomes evident that they do in their lives and deeds and I've not seen anything good enough in such a direction until now. I'm not adding another sociological observation about many Ethiopians as very suspicious and lacking in transparency etc that I just described above. Rather, I'm recommending an attitude of skepticism towards what fellow Ethiopians would say and would have us believe, esp., in politics.
Hope the above would help some who had/have a tendency to believe even the current Ethiopian government when it succeeded in persuading millions of Ethiopians including the current CUDP leaders that they’ll take over Ethiopian political leadership in a democratic manner which I did not believe then and would not believe for a minute which too many fellow Ethiopians believed and as a result lost so much for such convictions.

Rarely believe, if ever, what Ethiopian politicians say. We need a radically different, new generation of political leaders in Ethiopia now but I’m truly skeptical if we’ve any such even among whoever.
Good luck fellow Ethiopians,
Your skeptical compatriot

Anonymous said...

Dear Skeptic,
At least you should not be skeptical about the fact that the one's who play the political game fiercely into the brutal hands of Wayane are exactly those who claim themselves as the "only" true compatriots against Wayane?

Err tew Hailu said...

Despite his contribution to the formation of CUDP, Ato Hailu is unfit to any real and transparent democratic institution.

I strongly believe Ato Hailu & his friends still have most of the fund that has been diverted from Kinijit accounts in NA (Prior to their imprisonment) to their group of confidantes in Africa & NA. Their actions are motivated by having complete domination of Kinijit party by their group. The group members are mostly in NA. This group was formed in the AEUP days without the knowledge of AEUP members in Ethiopia and NA.

The genesis of the crisis in Kinijit is the attempt of this group to control Kinijit at any cost. The key architects of this operation are the two Engineers, Hailu & M. Brook.

EZ: It really unfortunate that you say something like that about Bedru. I am sure you have not paid an iota of sacrifice as Bedru did. You confirmed to us by labeling him before you even have to hear what he has to say. Give us a break dude! We are inelegant enough to decide who is telling us the truth and who is not. One great thing that is going for Hailu is the fact that he has the truth on his side. You may be heartbroken that your master plan to hijack the party did not go as your boss (TPLF) planned it for you. Your master plan was to have a successful coup d'√©tat and join Andargachw and both Berhanu’s at the Addis Ababa Airport! Too bad that it did not work out the way you and your masters have planned it. The “truth” is much powerful than you could ever imagine and it is yet to come out! We all use to think that you were unbiased until the fog started to clear and were able to see you come out of the closet.

Bedru Adem has been an inplant of EPRDF from the early days.Even though every Kinijit leaders have the information, Hailu Shawel has continued to work with Bedru. This shows either Hailu is desperate to destroy kinijit to cover up the embezzelment by his group or he himself has join the EPRDF.

Anonymous said...

Thanks Anonymous 1: 18pm for your response to what I shared above about being more skeptical towards what we believe as Ethiopians, esp., about our politicians would be more realistic given our past and present experience as a society.

I'm not recommending a wholesale or an absolute skepticism about whoever we're listening to yet without really adequate evidence and careful reflections on the nature of pieces of evidence we have an access to, it'd not be a good thing to embrace an unwarranted conclusion about various issues, which makes us only gullible, if not worse.

We as a society do not have reliable, responsible, and transparent and trustworthy political leaders as part of our country's history and going far beyond what we're entitled to believe, given our experience and available evidence, is what, I think, causes so much confusion and frustration and hopelessness among fellow Ethiopians.

We need to change much of what is going on about us: above all, the what we think about and believe about what is going on in light of our own society's typical character traits that underwrite much of our beliefs and actions.

Hope the above makes some sense,

The Skeptic

Bedru was and still is a Woyane agent - he is a very bitter man - in short a person who resents anyone who has more money than he does, more education than he does -It is so tragic that he is doing the same to Dr Berhanu, Dr Hailu Araya, Engineer Gezachew, Dr Yacob, Judge Bertukan etc.

All Woyane sponsored newspapers such as "The Reporter" or broadcast media such as "Mimi the ugly's FM97" are giving "Bedru" a big coverage - BECAUSE HE IS WOYANE AGENT and 'll do everything possible to destroy the beloved leaders of CUDP Birtukan, Berhanu and others.

Long Live CUDP under the young, articulate and educated leaders.

Just one more thought:

I want us ( fellow Ethiopians, who’re reading and hearing so much from all the media these days) to reflect just for a moment on why we believed so much of what we heard/read about this or that group only to conclude this or that.
1) If we really knew who HS was/is, or Taye was/is or Bedru was/is or whoever, we’d not be talking about these and many others we’re talking about in the same way we’re doing now. Yesterday, these people were heroes for millions of Ethiopians only to be villains today. Did we truly know what we’re talking about these people just some months back? I’m skeptical that we did not.
2) Why do we trust now, in a radically different manner, the rest of the CUDP delegation who’re on a working visit at various places these days since some of the people mentioned above claimed and acted yesterday in much the same way or in not radically different way? Is there anything absolutely unique to the now popular CUDP leaders that would distinguish them from those above named ones who were touted much the same way only a little time ago? Can we be so certain that these now popular CUDP leaders are blameless in any significant ways compared to their colleagues who were heroes yesterday and villains today?
3) Make no mistakes please: I’m asking only a logical or rather a critical thinking person’s questions without in any way suggesting anything against the CUDP delegation which is held nowadays in the highest regard possible. A skeptic like me would ask: On what grounds do you distinguish yesterday’s heroes’ mentioned above from today’s heroes held in the highest regard today? Do you have enough evidence to support what you believe to be true about one group or the other except perhaps some information or misinformation, rumor or innuendoes that we find just in the air? Just carefully think about these issues please in order to save ourselves from further disasters that can be caused by lack of sufficiently careful thoughts and wrongly reasoned and hence embraced conclusions for many of our beliefs about political leadership in Ethiopia.

We are sick of skepticism. How many times we hear words like "medanit abeluat", "tedegembign" every time we discuss any single private issue! As already said, the root cause is lack of transparency both in private life as well as public. How come we are all paranoid that every one is a TPLF-agent to those of us who belive ourselves to be non-TPLF. Let us get out of it and move forward!

Even during the 2005 election - it is Dr Berhanu, Dr Yacob, Dr Hailu Araya, Judge Birtukan, Engineer Gizachew who debated Woyane in every forum - NOT HAILU SHAWL NOT BEDRU ADEM because they don't have what it takes to challenge Woyane. SO it is Dr Berhanu, Dr Yacob, Dr Hailu Araya, Judge Birtukan, Engineer Gizachew and others who were and still are our heroes - Not Bedru and Shalequa Yosef unlike what you are telling us to believe.

Ato Hailu Shawel's incompetence was simply revealed during his BBC HARDBALL interview that undermined the achievements of other CUD leaders. Today's CUD or Kinijit is beyond HAILU SHAWEL or Bedru Adem's ability. CUDP has outgrown incompetence - Thanks to Dr Berhanu and other intellectuals!

Thanks Anonymous 2:32pm for giving us some reasons to think about the current CUD delegates for their outstanding contributions in the 2005 election.

The above is a good example to start with providing some reasons why some of the current opposition leaders deserve to be heroes for some Ethiopians. I do not have any hero since I'm skeptical by nature and it takes so, so much for me to see a hero in a person, not because I underestimate what the CUD figures whose names you mentioned above are incompetent.

But the problem with your view is this: one of today's villains was on the list of names that millions of Ethiopians held in the highest esteem only yesterday. Haven't some Ethiopians sung songs of praise to HS a few weeks back? Want to deny that? I do not know who Bedru is for your info. I just picked an example from the names that I came across. Not much hinges on who’s who for my argument to succeed.

No idea why you even gave me something that sounded like a title, Shaleqa before the name I chose to give myself for the sake of this discussion. No labels will advance this discussion any further; so, please attack my ideas for what they're worth, as worthless or whatever. No sheer speculation and labeling about me would do any good to advance our debate about our country’s current situation or its future.

Thanks for your thoughts though.

The above point by the Skeptic is to share ideas by way of encouragement with those fellow Ethiopians in the sense to say that you've better ways of being humans and Ethiopians than the way you exemplified yourself with in what you did. Sorry that it's easy for some compatriots to descend into such shameful acts without a sense of shame. If the likes of you do not populate Ethiopia we’d have been a much better society.

This is to challenge anyone participating in these exchanges of thoughts to conduct our exchanges of views in a reasonable, acceptable, that is to say, civilized manner so that such shameful acts be left behind, even for a day.

If we take a moment as a people to reflect, we’d realize that we've barely made progress in terms of our own civilization from the time of Axum! Show me any trace of our own symbol of extant civilization in most of today’s Ethiopia that is even remotely comparable to whatever of Axum? On the other hand, one can show so easily to anyone’s satisfaction the likes of unthinking and unreasoning and gullible people (examples are above) even among the so-called educated Ethiopians that lead Ethiopia to its inevitable destiny, that is, destruction and decay and perpetual paralysis. Notwithstanding all this we try to act and show off that we're such a civilized group of people while living on almost everything borrowed from others including this very language that we use to expose our deep-seated ignorance as a people.
Can't we do better?
I'm skeptical that we can, ever, UNLESS some of us change in some fundamental way that is nowhere to be seen in the horizon at the moment, or never to be seen.

Good luck or I’m so sorry for us.

Seriously folks, is Elias Kifle for real?

I can't make any sense of this person's justification for his "rabid' writings.

Dagmawi, if you are reading, you have earned the respect of many, including myself, for your expression of disapproval to this individual.

If association with people like Elias Kifle is not already harming the opposition, it will. He must be told off.

Elias boasts of his bulging files on individuals ranging from his website commenters to highly posted foreign and local officals and corporations.

Remember just about a year or so ago he was threatening to release the contents of his files on Brehane Mewa? Shortly after, in just a few weeks, he completely reversed himself and started activel and abusively engaging himself in countering the critics of Brehane Mewa. Why?

The speculation is that money is involved. But how much, and why? Except for some wildly diverse and few credible rumores, I have no knowledge of.

The question here is not whether, Andargachew Tsige or Brehane Mewa are involved or not.

But the question is, is Elias Kifle, through his so called "Ethiopian Review’s Research Department (ERD), formerly known as ER’s Intelligence Unit" is blackmailing individuals for some gains that may be questionable?

I am not saying, theough, his "research" or "intelligence" itself is anything of substance.

Forget Axumite civilization if you will. I'm as adamantly opposed to those who say this or that about Ethiopian history. My point was simple: are we doing better than those ancestors of ours who lived in the Axumite period in our history? Not much. To prove the Skeptic wrong show me how much progress the Ethiopian society has made in the meantime, in about 2000 years. Forget that so-called Axumite civilization but you can't dismiss all of reality as to who we are.

We're who we're because of what we believed/believe about ourselves, so many beliefs and misguided ones and we act in accordance with what we believe for beliefs largely guide our (human actions) and that is it.

Nothing to do with any political group! Yet, everything to do with a desire to understand our situation and to face the truth about us no matter how bitter.

Very street forward questions to the Mr. HS form a concerned fellow Ethiopian
Time and time again Mr. HS has complained that the delegates are running around her and there.
The day you arrived in the USA you started publicly naming and shaming this delegates and their trip.
Dear Sir, why is that the delegates meeting with the diasporas big deal to you?
Does it occur to you for a minute that we in the diaspora are equally important elements of the democratic movement in our homeland?
Does it occur to you we deserve to be addressed, encouraged and organised to be part of the great movement!
For the health reason you were not able to follow these delegates, this you have been saying time and time again… You wanted the trip transpired or delayed till you recovered. You wanted the trip to be conducted after the New Year celebration in Ethiopia

What I do not understand is that…Is this the first and the last time we will meet delegates from the popular movement?
Have we said we are tired of meeting you? Or contributing for the movement?

The truth is that we are ready to host any member of this movement at any given time!
If you wish you can came and visit us every month, every half year every year!!
WE ARE NOT TIRED OF THE POPULAR MOVEMENT

I do not expect all trips and delegates to include you! With you or with out you we are ready to host and shear our wishes, dreams and ideas with the members of the great movement!!
And every time you or any member of the movement is with us we will provide all the necessary help!!
In my view, with all respect, when the 70 million impoverished Ethiopians eat properly, get medical care and basic education we will celebrate New Year. Till then the struggle should not stop for a minute.
At last, in the future please do not criticize your comrades in public!!
A general will not criticize his commanders in public on such a trivial mater!
A great leader will not spite on the face of those people who fought for his freedom and safety!

Your so called supporters “yante group” are making it a big deal that the delegates were not present at your arrival at Washington DC
Why is that their presence is such an important issue to you?
As far as I’m concerned these delegates spent 2 years in the same prison as you
They came from Addis!
You came from Addis!
They have been in contact with you while in Ethiopia. You hade a meeting with them before they left the country!
They do not miss you as much as we miss you as such they have to meet you at your arrival at every airport!
The most important thing is that some one is doing the very crucial work, gathering so many Ethiopians and spreading the message to the whole wide world
The delegates are doing outstanding work and you should not allow disruptive and unconstructive critics to slow their fine work!

Dear E-z

your subtle pro-Birhanu group support has become undeniable.

For those who have inquisitive and open mind , the debacle in kinnjit is becoming clearer by the day. Form the outset , it has been argued by those well informed that there are two clearly distinict groups in kinjit who hastly and fatfuly created wihdet ONLY for political expediency. the two groups have quite conflicting goals.
1. Gruop one lurks for power , collaborate with foreign powers at the expense of the national interest of Ethiopia and its people. This group has no constituency , but has leaders , who are remnants of the leftist cadres - who want power at any cost , in the name of the people.they have a very skillful propaganda machinery , well financied and staffed by people like Kiflu Tadesse. They effectivley whoodwinked the unsuspecting diaspora , galvanised the much less educated and minimum wedge workers who thoughtlessly follow their mischief - in a HERD mentality.since they have no foundation , they are doomed to fail , hurting the struggle for freedom immensely!

2.The other group has unwavering nationalist agenda , unselfish and honest wish to remove the canals of butchery, poverty, and misery. They have a proven track record , they are less well organised , some are down right imposters , but they have a rock hard foundation and reliable leader in the name of Hailu Shawel. They have no Ethinocentric philosophy which is barbaric and an insult to humanity.

The fate of these groups will be evident sooner , and the winner will have the undaunting task of restarting the struggle all over again.

As time goes by , The Truth will prevail. In the mean time Meles and co. will breathe a clean air and will sleep well.

I tell you what. Now, I am starting to believe in conspiracy theories. Eyasu Alemayehu's PLC called EPRP must be working in the service of the father-in-law's presidency. Otherwise, I can't see any reason why EPRP works so hard to split and undermine the only political organisation with any prospect to expose Woyane's lies and brutality if not putting a realistic threat to its military power.

"There are no true friends in politics. Everyone is a shark circling and waiting, for traces of blood to appear in the water" Alan Clark

I do not knwo how long the 5 member delegation (the 15 leaders of the CUD, for that matter) should remain silent or act polite by saying Hailu Shawel is still our leader while Hailu has been on the offensive all along since he stepped on the US soil. The innocent leaders which are the majority (of the realeaded leaders) who are now on tour in Europe and North America should act quickly. Otherwise Hailu's intent is now crystal clear when he decided to fly in to Washington, Bedru Adem, a CUD defector and a long time political gambler . Dr. Berhanu, Bertukan, Dr. Yacob, Euyel and others should act swiftly and expose Hailu's intent and AEUP's conspiracy before the blood appears in the water!!

The tragedy of this unfortunate debacle is that , the true electorate back home has said nothing ( has not had the chance to do ). The vocal , mainly marginally informed or uninformed , asylees, refugees and wefare reciepients took charge of the decision making of removing and making their own kings , because they paid entrance fee of 20 to 30 USD during meetings.
Instead of being the mediators , they spray fuel on the fire. The leaders expose the internal affairs of the party to these misguided vocal diaspora groups with little or no understanding of the complexities of World politics and astonishig failure to recognise the principal players , their motives , and strategies !. There is nothing more dangerous than ignorance in action!.

I just heard the D.C meeting. I have never ashamed in my life. Is that the Eng. I voted for 2 years back. I'm so sorry to witness the worst of all ....It's sad to hear such insult from the Chairman and Co. (Bedru...) No Chance to work with the egoistic Chairman and Co.s

I respect your blog, I expect your firm stand on this issue?

What a Pity Day for Democracy!

none of them have ethnocentric philosophy and all of them together were suppossed to be in power if the votes were counted. If they didn't want to be in power, there would be nothing at all. Check your head anonymous 12:30 AM above. This is a purifaction process which will be over soon in pro-democracy's side. With the war looming and the money not available to kill more unarmed opposition, desperation is turning into misery in your AGAZI camp.

Funny, Bedru came all the way to tell us about Berhanu...Do we care about these individuals at all...what we need is a perty to take us forward.. Once we thought that but after this meeting the yesterday , i have noticed that Kinigit is in disarray and the so called some Lalay meker bete members were good for nothing. I apperecaite the other group for not mentioning a single bad word
about Eng. Hailu or the rest of them. Who cares for Hailu, Berhanu Birtukan or any of them. I think they all seems to forget one thing. We didn't follow them because who they are it is only because they were speaking our need for freedom, democracy and human rights . That was the only thing binds are together. Now, I am waiting for Seye to come!!!

there is one thing I know,
most politicians are liers. This is how the oldies say
"A good lier would be a good politician"
What ever they say 85% of it is a lie, I do not thing the people of Ethiopia will ever believ them again. It's a totall collapse strategies.
Let Ethiopia comes to it's faith. God the almighty will make things right, but not Eng. Hailu or Dr. Birhanu.
God bless Ethiopia
