War with Eritrea Round the Corner

Foreign diplomats and government officials in Addis Ababa are speculating the timeline of the war as tension between Ethiopia and its northern neighbour heats up. EZ Post's diplomatic sources claim that the war is "only months away". Only a few hundred kilometers separate soldiers of the two countries. "There is a sense in the embassies and diplomatic missions in Addis Ababa that the war will start at the end of November or in December, " a source at the American embassy told EZ Post. The government accuses Eritrea of undermining Ethiopia's
sovereignty by helping groups it calls "terrorists".
Government sources say that Prime Minister Meles Zenawi wants to make this war quicker and more effective than the last one which ended in a decisive victory for Ethiopia after thousands of  army members and civilians were killed on both sides. The Algiers agreement which was signed by the two countries after the war didn't reflect the victory gained by Ethiopia in the war front.
On Monday, President Girma Woldegiyorgis urged members of parliament to approve money for the military build up at the Ethio-Eritrean border.

I guess the war is inevitable. With HR2003 looming to affect Meles he will do anything to stay in power. Divert the attention and says he is fighting against allegedly terrorist state Eritrea. We will possibly see Eritrae labeled as terrorist before a war brakes out. This is the only time Meles can try to fight Eritrea.

To me the war will start just to shift attention. TPLF has always a bad gae-to play with the poor people blood. Their motive is always to war ...

"...Government sources say that Prime Minister Meles Zenawi wants to make this war quicker and more effective than the last one which ended in a decisive victory for Ethiopia after thousands of army members and civilians were killed on both sides..."

Quicker and more effective? Don't flatter yourselves! For starters, Meles is a wounded and cornered beast right now after HR. 2003 is passed. He is desperately trying to shift attention just to buy time here and there before his final demise. This trend of propaganda has been circulating for years now with the collaboration of Western diplomats. "Our armies are 9 inches apart from each other now". “Meles is fed up with the help Eritrea extends to ‘terrorists’ orgs. Such as OLF and ONLF”. It’s been customary for Meles and his cohorts to wake up every morning and echo this deafening propaganda until people are convinced about the "inevitability" of war.

Last but not least, what is the guarantee there will be a swift victory against Eritrea?

There will not be war between Eritrea & Ethiopia. This is just another twist to divert attention from deep internal and external pressure. EZ, This time you have a wrong information from unreliable information sources. Believe me there will not be war anymore!!!! God bless Ethiopia

I was in addis when I mentioned to my politically aware friends and family members that the war drum will be started soon as the new year mood gone by.
I was hundred person convinced then and the same now, the whole thing about this war not to Badme. Belive it or not it is for regime change. Regime change for once and all. Bye bye Isayas and co.
That is the aim for Meles and co with the support of American.

The response to a signalling of such important event should not be "Aha! ...Ehi..hi!". Rather, focussed attention should be paid to one's own preparation when the said event is to happen. What is Kinijit's stand if a war erupts as predicted? Will you sanction or let zenawi recruit the children of the very people he tortured, maimed and mowed down in broad daylight to serve his regime? Or will you advocate for his handlers--Shabia-- to march on Adwa, the area in Tigray which supplies a disproportionately highest numbers of Meles' agents, killers and torturers? Or will you stand by and watch like the so-called Oppositions did during the last war until until Meles recovers and sends out his troops to kill non-Adwa-ean returnees from the war front and innocent civilians who may rise to question the legitimacy of his authority?

This is time for serious thought and strategic planning, but I cannot be certain whether the pathetic lot called Kinijit leadership is not gonna be caught once again with pants down while bickering whether it should have been Hailu to call Bertukan or the reverse; 19 persons decision is less/more of a collective leadership than a single person's decision; Lidetu Ayalew and co.. should attend the 60-person supreme council meeting etc...

If this war is to take place, its significance is immense for the future of political struggles in the region as a whole and it is likely to set the parametres of political development and struggle in Ethiopia in particular for the forseeable future. If opposition parties except themselves from determining these parametres (because some like Kinijit are engaged in the more serious issues of internal protocols which I prefer to name as feudal egoistic bickerings) they will be doomed to play the games on the political and battle fields mapped out by Woyane strategists. It will be very sad to witness the opposition not having picked lessons from its strategic failings during the first Woyane--Shabia war. Let's stand up to these pathetic lots and tell them that you are making yourselves laughing stokes for your enemies and embarassing your own supporters round the globe. Nothing can be more proper at this place than Bob Geldoff's implied message to Meles Zenawi in a British TV interview soon after the June 2005 massacre---GROW UP!!

If Tplf thinks there will be a "quick victory" over Eritrea, it must be a pipe dream. How can one expects a quick victory over an army which is greater in number and have almost an equal military equipment. Didn't the last war take two years 100000 people and uncountable money even when Tplf had the whole population behind it? How about now? Tplf doesn't have whatever public support it had during the last war. There is no enough reason for the war. It is going to be a war of choice for Tplf and the Eritreans will have the moral high ground. It is very hard for Tplf to find soldiers who run on mine fields to clear Eritrean defense lines like the last war. If war breaks out, the whole Horn of Africa will be on fire. The peacefull struggle to change the Tplf regime would be dead as the regime would declare state of emergency for indefinate period. The regime would cancel the next election due to security reasons and attack any potential adversary in Ethiopia as an Eritrean agent. Whatever we have achieved through the peacefull struggle would face a setback and we peace loving Ethiopians must protest before too late. God save us from the madness.

EZ is writing about the possible war between Eritrea & Ethiopia. But you are writing about other issues which are not related to the topic. Do you reread before posting what you are writing. Terregaga abo yilal yeharer sew!!! Libona yistih.

This is an attempt to divert attention from the peacefull struggle which is gaining momentum by the day. The US Congress passage of the bill sent shock and awe to Tplf leaders and now they want to deflect the attention. War with Eritrea will only compound the immense problem in our country. Tplf leaders must stop fooling themselves and reconcile internally. Any attempt to kill the internal struggle and externalize the issue to Eritrea has a disaterous outcome. Tplf must stop entertaining a dangerous idea and face the truth. The solution is simple. Sit down and reconcile with the opposition.

The question is what counts as a victory? getting rid of Issayas or taking back Assab!

Anonymous said...

It is a misinformation to change the subject. EZ- you got it wrong this time. Both regimes are happy with the Status-quo as the American policy makers told us recently. Both dictators want the war talk to continue as they have been doing the last seven years and we do parrot without taking any lesson. Melles told TIME megazine that he still regrets the last war let alone another war. Sebhat Nega said the same thing saying there will never be another war. Who do we listen to? Can't we get tired of talking about a non-existent war for the last seven years? we do we learn from our mistake. THERE WILL NEVER BE A WAR BETWEEN THE TWO COUSINS. THEY ARE HAPPY WITH THE STATUS-QUO. THEY JUST WANT US TO TALK ABOUT IT TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT FROM THE PEACEFULL STRUGGLE.

Shabia and extreme diaspora are very uncomfortable. Hr2003 didn't pass YET. It is not a LAW, and it may not even see the day light in the Senate. Second, Ethiopia doesn't need the permission of America to fight its enemy of Shabia. Shabia is in Somalia. Shabia is helping ONLF. Shabia is trying to create havoc in Ethiopia. And any fool who stands says EPRDF is trying to divert attention, is truly a blind person whos thinking is filled with short term understanding of politics. So if EPRDF fights Shabia then it is EVERY PATRIOTS ETHIOPIAN RESPONSBILITY TO SUPPORT IT! SIDING WITH THE ENEMY FOR A QUICK POLITICAL POWER IS BEING BANDA OF THE MODERN DAY!

The government in Addis is not in a position to declare war unless they are desperate. any cornered regime would do this. talking about war from outside. it is a perfect diversion tactic but actually they will not fight. it is a bluff to creat smoke screen. lets focus on our peacefull struggle.

Eritrea is Meles' mess, let him clean it by himself. We Ethiopians are no longer emotional enough to fight against symptoms when the cause stays around.

To the person who write aboun not to be a BANDA,

For how long we should support Meles's and his co. war just becouse it is called in the name of Ethiopia. The more we help meles the more we suffer. Besides both meles and Issayas are our enemies. What Issayas did more than Meles did to us. Sometimes It might be wise to support the enemy at a distant than supporting our killer near us.

Should we talk about a war which never happens every week or talk about the most important human right issues? it is just a propoganda.

I think you have to make a correction about the distance between the two cuntries solders. it is not hundreds kilometer it should be handred metters.
Thanks

Thank you EZ for raising awareness on this issue. We need to speak up! No one benefits from this impending war. War with Shaebia the first time, though avoidable, may have been understandale but this one has no merit even by the standards of any war just or unjust.
I suggest all readers of your blog to reread the following article published last month regarding this issue.

Dear compatriots, we have to stand against any move for war. If the incumbent regime has the slightest concern about peace and a better future for the peoples of Ethioia in particular and of the horn in general, it would seriously consider the option of war as the last resort. It is the highest of time for the government to respond to the offer on silver platter from the majority of opposition groups and of course the people for national concensus and reconscilation as soon as possible and then take up the remaining problems of the nation with a common resolve. This regime has to finally wake up from its long nightmarish sleep. Denial and refusal can onlu lead the regime to further disgrace and ultimate disaster and the people to untold misery. Therefore, we have to say no to war.

No to war! No more bloodshed! No more sacrifice to benefit few maniacs!

Anonymous said...

Say no to war. The last war was just though ended in shabia's favour. But another war is so unjestifiable that it could bring havoc to our country. War without any reason is a war of choice and even a super power such as America is in a mess. Weather we like it or not the Eritreans have the moral high ground if another war breaks out. Our government lost its legitmacy in 2005 and we are divided as ever and above all there is no justification for war whatsoever. I hope it is a false news as usual.

Anonymous said...

My guess is Tplf will never start another war unless it is very very desperate. Tplf would take war as a last resort to stay in power. Talk of war is meant to shift attention as the Millinium is over without any success. But if war breaks out there will not be quick victrory as Tplf predicts and the consequence would be much more dangerous than Tplf thinks. To win in a war decisively one needs a population behind the commander in chief and a just cause for the war both are non-existent.

How could a Wayanne Agent adovcate so that we support TPLF at times of the impending war. This Agent called us a Banda. Who is the Banda. Is it not the Atse Yohannes who brought the British all the way to Mekedella and fought Emperor Tewodros under the British Army. This is history. Yohannes was a spy and collaborator of the British who was a banda himself for a few handful of arms that he got from the British Army. Secondly, let me leave what your ancestors did on the battle of Adawa and come to the Michew battle. Did your ancestors not allied again with the Italians to fight Haile Selassie. Did you not allied with Mussoloni to fight our motherland. Read the Ashenge episode of your history.Thirdly, at times of the Derg did you not fight our troops with the Eritrean junta. Is that not history. At times of Bademe war, who traded the victroy at the Algers Agreement. Meles is a Banda as your ancestor Yohannes did. The Rases of Mekele allied with the Italians. The same banda leader traded the already won war with Wadi Afom. Are they not cousins. Is it not your Leader who said he will quash any seed from germinating in Ethiopia that adovates a war against Eritrea. Look what you did to the map. Look at it. Had you not subjugated the Afars from claiming their land of Assab, the Dahelak and Massawa. Whose land do you think that is. Do you think it belongs to the Tigre. Absolutely not. You know from the heart of hearts that it belonged to the Afar that you see in Wollo or Assayita. Why did fight the Afars when they said they do not wish to be divided in between. Is there no provision in the TPLF/DEDBIT Manifesto that states that you observe the rights of nationalities.Let me leave this for your children to shoulder.
By now you call us a Banda when you feel strangulated by your one time friends and big bosses. What have you done when you came to Ethiopia. You tamed the tributaries of Tekeze and build a 3 billion water dam. where do you get the water and the money to build this electrification. Are they not the tributary waters of Gondar and Wollo. Read your map. As for the coffee and gold money you diverted to build the Tekeze dam,the Oromos and Sidamas will one day interogate you. Every body knows about the story of the big money.
At any rate, since you do not want to lose the Tikeze Dam you will not go to war because you will be targeted by the Eritean jets. You can not consume alone what you stole. So we shall see what your AGAZI troop would do for you now. At Bademie the Gojjamie Melitia fought and saved your Mekelle. Now let us see your Tegadalayent you aired for 16 years. A Banda you said. Every body knows the Banda. The Bands are reknown in History and Histroy is repeating itself.

There is nothing called short and decisive war. If meles can't defeat an unorganized militia in somalia how is he going to defeat an Eritrean Army that put him in power the first place. Let's be real here war will be the last option Ethiopia needs, especially agains well equiped and highly trained Eritrean Force.

Melles and his buddies must stop the adventure before it is too late. In the first place Eritrea is not Somalia and any dream of a "quick victory" is dangerous. Let alone the well trained and better equiped Eritrean army, weyane is having a hard time to win over a rag tag militia who is bleeding it everyday. If we Ethiopians do not support the war, Tplf would be history in less than a month. No Ethiopian in his reight mind would clear mine fields for murderous AGAZZII militia that gunned down our people in a broad day light. I wish Aggazzii militia good luck kkkkkkk and I hope they will never come back to Addis again.

The issue is legally solved. There is no reason for TPLF to launch another war against Eritrea. They fought against each other, then they accepted to go to court, then the court rebdered its final & binding decision. Weyane has been holding back creating means and reasons, the chairman of the EEBC panel realized this and determined to close the office after giving their final and binding decision on high resolution photograph. This means Eritrea will go to the UN Security Council to report that TPLF has entered their sovereign territory. The UNSC, will have to ask Ethiopia to leave a sovereign territory of a member country of the UN. Weyane will either withdraw willingly or the Eritreans reserve the right to hit it anytime they feel suitable. According to Article 7.14 UN charter no country has the right to invade other country without a just cause. Hence, Eritrea will be given the right of path to secure their border. Any more death from the Ethiopian side is unjustifyably wrong, for they are dying for taking smething that is not rightfully their's, while the Eritreans have good reason to justify their death for they are defending their sovereign territory.

I agree with the above anon 10:48 pm. Tplf seems to be desperate. Today's Finacial Times reports the honeymoon between Bush and Melles is over. Due to this fact, Tplf is going to take another disasterous decision out of frustration. Weather we like it or not, the case has been resolved through a legal court which Tplf signed as final and binding in Algiers. So any war mongering attitude from Tplf leaders is just to stay in power and no Ethiopian should die for unjustifiable reason. Any more death from the Ethiopian side is unjustifyably wrong, for they are dying for taking smething that is not rightfully their's, while the Eritreans have good reason to justify their death for they are defending their sovereign territory.

This war thing you are talking about will not happen. It is suicidal for both Isayas and Meles. It will only remain as a protracted diplomatic war for as long as God knows when.If it happens Isayas will lose the most including his very existence while it will hardly leave Meles unscath.

EZ,

I agree with you. This is absurd to hear demonstration against Eng. Hailu. It is disappointing to see how our political difference is getting too low, so I say:

- we should go and hear this great leader
- we should express our respect for him
- We should thank him for his commitment
- We should thank him for the good fight he has fought

However, this doesn't mean approving people currently surround him and the position he is taking at a present time, so I say:
- We should express our concern clearly that the party's unity is on danger.
- We should remind him that Kinijit is a big umbrella, so it should handle different views prudently.

- We should clearly state that they should able to sit around the table and discuss whatever differences they have as opposed to (yekurfiya politics) communicating via wavelength such as Radio, Paltalk, Phone ..etc

May God bring the unity in Kinijit family

How is it possible for Mellese to go to war with his former friend after they went to court and agreed to resolve their border thru legal means? I am confused here, they signed a Final and Binding peace accord and when the decision is given they disagree, what did they expect? TPLF better listen to reason or they will lose everything they have in their hand and more. The people of Ethiopia are not in a mood to follow Mellese, you decieved us once and we are not going to fall again. Instead of spending billions for war it is better to use the money for something good. There are several projects waiting for attention, such as the Blue Nile irrigation, and Tanna irrigation. Instead of fighting bring the soldiers to work on the dams and trrigation projects. Mellesse is a fool, some people say he smart; if he is smart he should use his smarts right now and make a U-TURN to do what is right instead of what feels good.

At the End of this month of November, the EEBC ruling will be marked permanently on an internationally recognized legal Map. That means beginning of December 1st, 2007 Ethiopian forces in the once despiuted territories but later awarded to Eritrea, will be considered occupying forces and will be pressured to leave immediately or face the enevitable. If the woyane government is foolish enough to spark a war then it will be the end of the woyane regime, and it will be a self-inflicted regime change on its own.
The time is now to have a decent government in Ethiopia that cares for its people and respects its neighbors. If that government comes with the help of Eritrea, consider it a Christmas Present from Eritreans to Ethiopians.
As far as the woyane is concerned, they will be confined in Tigray not to ever rise again. they will be help accountable for all the crime against humanity and genocide they committed on Ethiopians, Eritreans and Somalians.
It is the end of woyane as we know it.
God Bless Eritrea.
God Bless Ethiopia.
God Bless Somalia.

i believe that a divided nation is weaker than a united nation.
there are maney foreign nations both outside of africa and inside
of africa ( a.k.a., egypt and most likely s.africa ) who wan to see the habesha peoples kill each other by the thousands, just so they can have complete control of the nile. It has always been over the river nile source.ALWAYS!!. It has been like this for thousands of years, ever since the days black Africans controled the upper regions of the river nile.
Anyways if we keep killing each other the white arabs will not only control the upper parts of the river nile region ( egyot, northern sudan_) they will also control the rest of sub sahara africa, EAST AFRICA, south africa, and west africa. the arabs, whites and probably asian are sitting back while at the same time providing weapons and watch the extermination of east africans occur, before their very own eyes and ours too.

Anonymous said...

ethiopia and eritrea and sudan
can unite and control its own destiny if it wants . The united nation , i think , is a joke.
wwhen eritrea literally took back its islands off the coast of the red sea, from the Yemeni army in two days the UN ordered eritrean military off the islands. After the arbitrations and political negotiations the iternational courts awarded Yemen with the largest islands and eritrea was awarded the samllest ones. This sort of justice is considered racist and evil. When it comes to the international community, we africans might as well put our BRAINS together and figure a way to control our destiny once again not only for ourselves but for our children and their future. War is something africans don't need. It will only depopulate east africa even further. We need to unite and or share borders, like europe has been doing with the EU and The united states is doing with The North American Union. We need to create an East African Union that is both militarily and economically strong. Thats the only way we africans can survive in this white and arab dominated world ( I'm not a racist, by the way - just an african who loves and worries about his people and where they're headed in the future_) . If we don't stop killing each other one day will end up either dead or as slaves.
REMEBER THIS STATEMENT: history always repeats it's self.
look what happened to the blacks who once inhabited egypt ,Lybia,New Sahara, and Morocco. The foreign powers in the middle east and in Rome some how turned the black north african against themselves, and watched them destroy themselves through war and curuption. Eventually when the Blacks in North African finally realized that they've made a serious error, it was too late. theier popuilation had declined and thier politians had been bribed and curupt. The arabs had already moved their settlements into north africa along with the Romans. Some blacks eventually moved towards southern egypt and northern sudan. The remaining Black Settlement in North Africa (egypt,Lybia, etc...) ended up either torched , or wiped out. The rest of them eventually ended up as soilders in the new arab armies in north africa, slaves or migrant workers in The Americas ( thus was born the African American_).
But what is scary is that what happened a few centuries ago is happenning right now in DARFUR. Those Black africans are being systematically exterminated, and the one's that made out alive either ended up in the Americas, as immigrants!!, or the whole villiages ended up migrating further south into ERITREA !!,
Whats happening in Sudean will eventually happen in eritrea and ethiopia, but the arabs and europeans are waiting for ethiopias and eritreas population to dwindle down to sudans population of 20 million or so then they can start the, behind the curtains campaign against the mightt habesha peoples.
but remeber we have survived centuries of war fair against our enemies and i think god is looking after us and we will make it through this ARMAGEDON.
When i don't know but i have a feeling it will come to an end soon.
PEACE IN THE AFRICAN EAST!!!
I hope one day all africans may live in peace and harmony.
God Bless Africa.
