The deadline to take over the Addis Ababa city adminstration passed this afternoon. Election board sources confirmed Ayele Chamiso et al failed to get the required number to take over the admistration. It was learnt that some withdrew after being registered and four signatures were turned out to be forgeries. After he knew that he failed, Ayele wrote to Meles Zenawi asking for a one-week extension of time. This is the fifth time the take over attempt failed.
Vicki was in prison last night
Vicki Huddlestone met dr. Birhanu Nega at khaliti prison last night(6:45 local time), according to prison sources. She went there with the French ambassador. She told Birhanu that since they were the only accepted leaders to the people, they should give a blessing to the new CUDP and the take over of addis adminstration for the sake of the democratic process. The astounded birhanu declined her request.

Update on the Teletafi Kinijit
The man who was sent to the Afar region by Ayele Chamiso et al to collect signatures of support for the Teletafi Kinijit absconded with the money he was provided. Sources said that the money was given to the organizers of the surrogate group by the US embassy in Addis.
Hunger strike
The hunger strike by the prisoners at Kaliti in protest of the treatment of Muluneh Eyuel is on its second day.

By calling 60 member of your deputy teletafi and ostracize them CUD is weakening itself.
What is being achieved here to call this victory?
Most of CUD deputies have joined the parlement and regional parlement.
For Addis, there is plan B where a new administrative body is going to be appointed.
So, it is really ridiculous to claim you have achieved something when the struggle whether you call it real vs fake, it nevertheless a struggle between CUD vs CUD. Either way CUD is the looser
On the contrary anonymous, everything boils down to legitimacy. Both Meles and Vicki understand that any party they creat is going to have zero legitimacy. Meles wants to create a new reality. Let him do his own dirty work, claim a democratic parilament and see if anyone buys it. CUD leaders are not going to do his dirty work for him.
This isn't about having or losing 60 persons. When in August people in Addis asked and warned CUD not to join parliament, they had wanted EPRDF's government to be denied of legitimacy. The leaders understood that and went to jail instead of parliament. The Teletafi Kinijit is trying to destroy the principle they sacrificed their freedom to and the people's interest by giving EPRDF legitimacy.This isn't CUD Vs. CUD. It is sticking to a principle V. opportunism. Kinijit leaders know before and now that there would always be individuals who might wilt in the heat of the moment.
As to the parliamentarians, we know how most of them joined parliament.
Look what is happening to ONC. Merera joined parliament to save his party, now he does not have ONC, and what remains of it is in pieces. Meles is there to break the CUD as he did every opposition. If he collects 60 or 600 of CUD members, well I say it is a pitiful number compared to the millions who will come out marching ahead with the legitimate leaders. In fact it is a perfect cleansing exercise of opportunists among the CUD such as Lidetu, Ayele Chamiso and the rest – we need more of altruistic leaders willing to sacrifice for principles. I understand some of us have not seen principled action by prominent Ethiopians in a long time and it appears futile for now. But Meles, Vicki and the rest of them know it and are trying to break it. The spirit will continue and will be triumphant.
The only thing the US wanted the real CUD to accomplish is to endorse their devilish design!
How bold are these people! How contemptuous are they of the people of Ethiopia?
Don't they understand that these people are in prison simply because they refused to bow to their design! Do they think that they languished enough and that now they will give up and bow!
The nation is with the true leaders of the CUD. We stand against any evil design of the US and their instruments! The will surely face the dire consequences soon. We are only waiting until the diplomatic missions reach it peak. The US then will never have a foothold in the Horn, never again!
