The Bill won't pass, Yamamoto says
Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Donald Yamamoto critisized Last week's congressional hearing on Ethiopia. According to sources, Mr. Yamamoto made his feeling that the hearing didn't represent diverse views known to people he met while he was here on Friday. He said that the Bill would be killed and Chris Smith was trying to push it through only because it was an election year. He also suggested that the Senate hadn't shown enough interest on the bill. Some of those who met him felt that he was very upset with the hearing.
(Comments on Yamamoto's visit here latter)

Why so may personal attacks on individuals? It is not Vicky or Yamamoto's interest, but America's foreign policy interest, no matter how much you cry, shout, beg, bribe, rally,etc...; American gov is telling you, you are inconsequential. Live with it and move on!!!

Unfortunately for anonymous, the American government does not work like that of Zenawi - You will be consequential if you make the right amount of noise.

I though as much. He had so much trouble chosing his words at the hearing, he looked like a contipated old man trying real hard to get a delicate way to response. After every quesion, he wasted time praising the work of the congressman who posed a quetion to him rather than addressing the issue at hand.

Thanks for the update.

It is an irony that Ethiopian voters were able to voice their concern in the US congress/senate but not in their own country. It is my only hope that Ethiopian current leaders will be held accountable to what they have been doing...

This is TPLF's whish! Chris Smith did the right thing by embaressing the Ehtiopian Diplomat Tug. The beginging of the end of TPLF has started and they will be crushed like a sandwich! These ungreatful blood suckers used Ethiopians to rescue them from EPLF and now the are killing the very people that helped them!

It is clear that Mr. Yamamoto is supporting EPRDF not because of his wish. but as a spy for the US government he does things as his boses from the white house telling him to do. don't forget Eprdf's friendship to the bush administration in this context of terrorism.

I hope the bill will pass because the US has no other choice but to support the people if their war on terror is to succeed.

I was not happy by yamamoto's unrealistic comments, yamamoto supported a murderer called meles zenawi, if the US is to have good relations with the Ethiopian people it has to support the choice of the Ethiopian people. meles zenawi and Co. are rejected on May 15, 2005. Those who support meles zenawi are enemy of the Ethiopian people.
