Death sentence beckons our heroes

The court in charge of the treason and genocide trial of kinijit leaders, civil society members and independent journalists has today rules that all council members of kinijit including Hailu Shawel, Brehanu Nega and Birtukan Mideksa should defend their case in the treason charge.
The court ruled that the council’s decision has a direct cause and effect relationship with the June 8 and November one disturbances. It also ruled that the prosecutor has produced sufficient evidence to prove that they have committed treason.
The leaders have previously decided not to defend the case. If they stick to their previous decision, it means they will be sentenced for committing treason soon The crime of treason carries a death sentence or severe imprisonment in Ethiopian law.
The following are ordered to defend themselves

Wzr Birtukan Mideksa, Vice-Chair

They may keep them in jail but will never be able to keep there vision and plan for their country in prison. They have started the ball rolling and I don't think anyone can stop it now. May God be with them!

For dictators, justice and compassion are words with no meanings and they never budge even when facing their final days. What strikes me hard is the contempt that they have for Ethiopians, individuals, governments and others who pleaded with them to release the political prisoners in the spirit of national reconciliation. Meles has shown the world that he is a viciously brutal man who I think has much more sinister under his sleeves which he will use to take this country down with him.

If we were well organized and focused what has been happening wouldn’t have happened. Please let’s get organized and focus on ourselves B/C the solution is within us – BTW, never too late to get more organized. If we don’t’ do that, we will never gain lasting solution for our Mama Ethiopia.

What TPLF is doing very, very LOW and SICKENING. My Dear Ethiopian never expects peace, justice, and true solution from TPLF. They are unethical, incompetent, and shortsighted individuals among us.

There needs to be a fresh demand by all Ethiopians throught the world,to come up with some kind of c-oordenation to express public uproa. We need to make it clear not just release the elected officials ,but all poletical prisoners who are held in undisclosed locations ,and different prison camps ,including, Tsigae Asfaha and his familly. We demand release of all poletical prisoners without any condition now.We ask in the interest of all ethiopians the only logical approach to resolve long standing public grieveance is for the autorities to prove the world,by freeing all poletical prisioners, and assure the public that Ethiopiai is not any longer a police state. That is what the public has been asking all along:freedom of speech,
asembly, movment with out restriction. It is simply mind bogling to see this government pursuing this direction at this critical moment, where the poletical atmospher is charging up. Time to apply wisdome and prudence,if one fails here only God knows the rest.

I am a layman, believer of Orthodox church. This year Fasika and Eastern of the rest of the world coincides ( interesting). This “legal” process in a crooked way got its climax to this week, we are on the week of “hmamat”, very interesting! Judas Iscariot made the deal of betrayal on Wednesday and completed on Thursday (strange)? I never heard or red hate, but love and truth from these people, they refuse to defend themselves,…etc. I am not comparing them with Jesus Christ (forgive me God for mixing divine thing with human creatures), but I can’t avoid the feeling of all these coincidences. It is hard to program, it looks like a fate. May be it is a sign that Yasteserial, so I feel sadness at the same time hope, but I don’t want to see these prisoners pay ultimate sacrifice for me. I have to work for their freedom.
PS: If I offended any believer (christian or muslim), sorry it was not my intention.

Thank you Zagol and God bless you and your family. Over the years, you have been our eyes and ears in Ethiopia and we thank you for your outstanding service to Ethiopia and her people.

As far as the Kanagaroo court decision is concerned, as much as I hate to be a Monday night quarterback, I really didn't expect anything else, not really. All those postponements and adjournments were just Woyanie theatrics to give the farce a semblance of due process and thoughtful deliberation.

I have read the above comments and I totally agree with the call for reorganization and strengthening the struggle. But what bugs me to death is how many such calls and reorganizations do we need? I mean we have known that the TPLF gangsters’ main mission is to disintegrate Ethiopia and kill, maim and arrest Ethiopians that stand for unity and democracy. We all were aware of this fact for the last 17 years, yet we have seen the results of the various organizations and reorganizations eventually dissolve due to in fights between various individuals/groups hell bent on killing anything and everything that they can’t control and embezzle. Perhaps there is a merit to the old adage that a nation deserves its leaders. Perhaps we deserver Woyanie. Think about it.

I would love for Ethiopians from all corners of the world to go out and show their outrage at this farce. But we have seen over the years how many of us actually take the time and effort to show up for such rally. Even in Washington DC and the other cities where there are tens of thousands of Ethiopians, the number of people that show up for rallies is in the low hundreds. There were times in the various cities, after calling a rally and get the necessary police permits, the number of participants that showed up for the rally was less than that of the policemen that came to escort and direct traffic for them and this is shameful.

Death to TPLF traitors!

Two thousand years ago on Wendensday two days before Friday those who wanted to kill our lord Jesus Christ made agreement between each other to kill him. What a comparison, nearly two thosand years latter on the same wendsday two days before we observe that Friday,TPLF and it's judges agreed to kill our innocent leaders. If TPLF thinks no one is above it,keep waching the almighty God will show it by render it's just verdict on those who killed so many innocents. You better repent your sins before it gets to late!!!

My hope is that they will put up a defense to counter the prosecution's witnesses. My thoughts and prayers are with these people and many others who are suffering injustice in the country of their birth

Theory go beyond facts.
Much easier said than done. The ethiopian Mandella is not yet born. If born, We might have to wait couple of decades until he walks....
No unit, No hero, ... just talk. talk, talk...

This is a declaration of War against Ethiopia and its people. This time it should not be a demand for realeasing Engineer Hailu and Co., nor should it be a demand for realeasing all political prisoners, it should rather be a struggle to free the whole of Ethiopia. Meles Zenawi has shown to the whole world what kind of dictator he is, what kind of game he is playing. He would have them sentenced to death and then would give them leniency to life in prison. This has few purposes. First and foremost to be seen as a Statesman, one who realizes democracy, the rule of Law of the country and at the same time who is compassionate. The second one is to show to his Ferenje donors that he is not a dictator as he is perceived to be by many. He would also silence any other struggle against his regime.
The big question is what should we, Ethiopians, do at this point? We should keep the struggle intensified until we get a lasting solution. "Asere kemefsat ande Mekzen yishalal". Long live Ethiopia!
